Default question about hydrophone max distance and ship detection

So I have two questions for experts:

1) AFAIK when I man the hydrophone myself, I can hear a contact at 34 km (it works this way in vanilla, not sure about the GWX). where can I find thise value of "34 km" or "34000" or whatever? it is not located in sensors.dat nor in sensors.cfg:hmm:

2) this would be a cheat but I wish toi know it anyway: can I tweak the .cfg or .dat files in order to make the TC drop at 1x as soon as the contact enters this 34 km perimeter?

thanks

*Bump*

I'm also researching this issue raduz.
The hydrophones on sensors.dat on stock have a max range to 20km and in GWX some of them on 25000. But not 28-34km where you start to listen the ships. I want to makle them the same. Or we raise the crew contact distance or we lower the player ability to do it at so high distance.
I guess that between 25-30 km is the max to a WWII era hydrophone.
Any more info on this isuuse?

Thanks bert,

I already read this and find also some old posts from DTB that also have references to this text:

The SHIII hydrophone is actually far more effective than it was in the real world especially is poor weather conditions.
Uboat.net has a article regarding underwater sound detection here
http://uboat.net/articles/id/52

If a submarine speed was 4 knots, the submarine's underwater sound detector average distance of detecting another object was:
- for a destroyer- 5 to 10 nautical miles,
- for a cargo ship- 3.5 to 7.5 nautical miles,
- for a convoy- up to 50 nautical miles.

So for a first look it´s clear to me that we need to reduce the player ability to listen on hydrophones to have a good gameplay balance...
But also notice that for convoys (50 Nm) the distance on Sh3 hydrophones is not enough. These SH3 distances are hardcoded for sure( i mean that sh3 don´t makes distances detection differences between warships, single merch and convoys). So we just need a middle ground and make the crew and the player listen almost at same time.

I´m testing this now!
