Fellow seamen, I have got a tricky qustion for you all. Who here has ever been inside a Yamoto battleship? Cause today I managed to literally board the biggest ship in the Japanese fleet.
Yes, that is the nose of my sub, splat in the middle of "interior" of the ship in the second pic. Third pic - I wonder what would Freud say about this? I am also, by going at ahead flank, am actually pushing the 65,000 ton immobilised Yamato forward with a speed of 2 Kts (boy, did they built fine subs during WWII). If I had unlimited batteries and air, I think I would have actually tried dragging her all the way into one of my bases (imagine how surprised those guys would be). And finally, notice the peculiar sense of humor of my liutenant, who gave me a "ship spotted" report when my periscope briefly reached the surface.:rotfl: Now for the actual story behind the shots: spotted a task force with Yamoto in the center, put 11 torpedoes into her, got her only to completely stop and tilt on one side. Ran out of ammo, decided to go melee. Wanted to see if I could actually ram her from below and tear her open from the bottom. Dove under her, raised both periscopes and gave out an emergency surface command. Apperently, even after all pathces and mods, collisions still work improperly, as instead of colliding I nearly surfaced right inside of the enemy ship. I bet my crew were eager to open the hatches and board, and then capture a new ship for the American Navy. Sadly, this manuever didn't work the way I expected it to, since nor Yamato, nor I have received any damage whatsoever. But at least I took some nice photos. |

That last one could be labelled "New Secret Weapon: Battleships now carry their own submarine escort!"

OMG you are gutsy to say the least
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I would have wondered if she would sink and drag me down with her rather than get that close. There is a first I think in shot's. I remember the guy that ended up on top of an ice burg in the game that was a great picture. But this is crazy. :rotfl: :rotfl: |

Maybe its remarkable footage of a submarine being born in the wild?....... ....and you thought they were built in shipyards!

New cinematic effects
This game is getting more and more like a movie every day. I decided to hang around topside during the day to give my AA crew a chance to get some experience.
Well, it started off well. They sent these guys home with their tails between their legs. Then things went all "Twilight Zone" on me. OMG, I'm in the "Philadelhia Experiment" |

Iowa and Baltimore vs. Yamato and Takao, with a bit of photoshoping of course.
The new free camera work is excellent. I just can't get enough of it, not that it isn't already obvious. |

Re:Stories and Patrol Logs
Well I haven't been able to play SH4 for several months now, but last weekend I was home and started a new career. This weekend I'm home for Thanksgiving and was able to complete my 3rd Patrol. This is their story: (dun-dun: like on law and order, sorry)
Okay so my last mission Manila was being attacked by the Japanese, so I was re-routed to Surabaja. My mission today is to drop off some supplies to an area near Volcano Island, an area South-East of Manila. I make the journey there and successfully drop off the raft full of cargo. As I sail away (I noticed the raft sank too, but hey the waves were pretty huge) I'm ordered to patrol the Luzon Strait. As I head up along the the west coast of the Phillipines to Luzon, my sonarman tells me there's a merchant contact. He passes me the map and I see he's marked it with blue. Strange this is usually reserved for warships. I zoom in and see that it's no merchant, but a convoy! This is strange though. The convoy isn't moving and it's relatively close to the shore, and the only city there is Vigan, and that's not port. I get closer to the convoy and look through the periscope. I can see only one ship on the horizon. It's a small passenger carrier, we move in closer and I wait while my weapons officer keeps a look out with the periscope. He yells "Captain! Come Quick!", I run over and look through the periscope. This is no convoy! It's an INVASION FORCE! I count eight passenger carriers (troopships), SEVEN Asashio Destroyers, one Mogami Heavy Crusier and Two Takao Heavy Crusiers! I aim for a cluster of ships and fire all my bow torpedoes. A carrier takes one and erupts into a huge explosion. A Takao Crusier also takes a hit, severely damaging it's engine room. I turn my boat around and fire my stern torpedoes at the Takao. They nail their target and it sinks to the bottom. I fire off the rest of my torpedoes at some clusters and grab a few hits but nothing sinks. I go to Luzon and they tell me to hunt some merchants! I head back for Surabaja. After a few days I get there and do a refit and head back to Luzon. This time I head up around Davao. I find several merchants and sink them with my deck gun. I radio base of my sucesses, and they tell me since I've got my torpedoes, go to Luzon. I go to Luzon and start my patrol off Babuyan Island. My sonarman reports a warship. I'm surprised, it's going rather slow. I use this to my advantage and position myself in front of it and go to periscope depth. Two warships now. One Asashio Destroyer and a Subchaser. This panicked me a bit, I'd never had to battle a subchaser before? What did it do? Could certain death await me? Nonetheless I'm in my favourite position. Ahead of warship(s) that don't know I'm there, at night, within 1000 metres. I'm going to go for my patented 10 & 2 shot. I take aim and fire two at the destroyer and then two at the subchaser. Sure enough both nail the destroyer and she begins to sink. Then one hits the subchaser and she sinks so fast the second misses. I continue north east. Now I'm east of Batan Island. I've just received a Task Force report, but I'm disappointed that it's almost parallel to me and heading west into the South China Sea. Almost no way of getting it. But then, good news. It's going at a steady 11 knots, far slower than my sub. I intercept them, going inbetween Diogo Island and Batan Island. I catch them, but I want to pass them and get an advantageous position. I panic a little when my sonarman reports a convoy to the south, but it passes by, and then my radarmen report aircraft patrolling, we luck out and they don't find us. My sonarman becomes confused. Apparently the convoy is changing course, directly at us! I call battle stations, dive to periscope depth and rig for silent running. She's well guarded with three destroyers patrolling in front. One passes by and must have spotted my spotlight inbetween waves, and alerts the others. I get ready as the first capital comes into view, a neat row of three Kongo Battleships! I line up for the first and fire all 4 torpedoes. All of them hit, she lists badly, and she's on fire! But she doesn't go down. I look behind me and fire my 4 stern torpedoes at a Takao Heavy Cruiser. Direct hit! She goes under. I go under to about 25 metres, and watch the second Kongo pass over. We load all the the torpedoes and I come up to periscope depth. I fire several at a oil tanker and another Takao, and the Takao goes down. I turn port in hope of getting another shot at the battleships. The ships are zig-zagging away from me. I have no choice but to fire as the destroyers zero in on me. I halt loading my last torpedo and wait for the destroyers to leave, I start backing away at 1/3rd, I watch as the destroyers take turns depth charging areas around where the Takao sank, then leave. I notice there's a stationary merchant left behind! I must've hit that tanker! I get into position and load my torpedo. I fire and it hits, but doesn't sink it, so I surface and get in the deckgun. She goes down quickly. I start on my way home. On my way I get a report of a smaller task force entering Southern China, no doubt low on fuel because of a missing tanker . On my way back I sink another ship with my deck gun for a total of 98,000 tons! I get a Victory Cross and a new submarine, the USS Drum, for my efforts. I don't know when I'll be able go submarining after this weekend. But I'll be back on Christmas for sure, till then, Happy Hunting! And a happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! |
