WOW!!!

Just finished watching the Directors Cut. One of the best movies ever made and goes straight inot Respenus's Hall of Multiple Watchings!

And yes, the subtitles are a wee bit wrong. The slovene translation is also "home town" and "finals". Look like they translated the English version to cut the costs (Damn Burecrats).

Now all I have to do, is find in some future the Uncut version and I'll be in heaven!

U-571 is "slightly" different from Das Boot, exactly like a Trabant is "slightly" different from a Mercedes. After all...thay're both german and have four wheels, right ?

U-571 is one of the worst sub movies I've ever seen. An anime movie about a ww2 sub would be more realistic than U-571
No offense, but U-571 was "Das Boot" in comparison to In Enemy Hands! No that movie only deserves to get

I recently bought the uncut version and found it so compelling that it actually felt I was there. The only drawback was at the end when most of them died in the air attack. After all those weeks surviving at sea and then to die on home ground.
I only wish there was an alternative ending or if they all survived and there would be a Das Boot part 2 out.

That is what we all wish!

The funny part is that in the book he doesn't say that any of them died (not that they didn't, he just doesn't say). The captain apparently dies, but people have said that Bucheim wrote two sequels and 'The Old Man' certainly lived.

In reality, there wasn't hardly even an air raid. That (deaths, etc.) was added solely by Bucheim.

I don't like to repeat myself, but it looks like I'll have to.

In Enemy hands, type VII has TWO aft tubes, the command area is almost TWO times the normal sub width (more the normal anyway) and there are also MANY, MANY small mistakes. I only watched it once and had to make myself watch it again.

I have seen U-571 many time (not even comparable with Das Boot), but still quite a good WWII sub movie.

I saw U-571 once, and that was once too many. Pure rubbish.

On the other hand, if we're going to complain about technical accuracy, don't watch The Enemy Below. It's a great war movie, but the u-boat interior? :rotfl:
