I used to be a big map fan, but COD really changed that.
I don't want to play a roadmarch simulator which unfortunately is what the games with the big maps end up being. I think COD4 did a great job of borrowing and modifying feature sets from other games. I also really can't say that vehicles add anything to gameplay in really any shooter i have played. If the infantry combat isn't fun, vehicles aren't going to help it. The game needs to be vehicle centric for vehicles to really work. The Mech Warrior series is probably still the best vehicle combat game out there, not counting Steel Beasts.

It's truly all about the platform you play it on. I remember I bought "Star Trek: Legacy" for PC, hated it, rented it on X360, and loved it. Truth be told, CoD4 is THE best multiplayer game for the xbox, hands down. Halo can't touch it, Ghost Recon (which was always my favorite) can't touch it, and Rainbow 6: Vegas can't touch it either.
Personally though, my favorite multiplayer game for PC is Joint Force.
