Nuke Big January Blizzard

That's all they're talking about in the truck stops. Supposed to be massive, Washington will get the worst of it according to predictions. The subway is shutting down for the weekend. Are you affected? What preps have you taken? Stay warm and good luck.

I don't think there will be any driving this weekend.

People will still need to get somewhere.
Public transport, especially one that's underground would be a must.

Ok, I am not part of the planning, but I believe what is implied is this storm makes travel unsafe, so people should stay home. Cancel going to work, cancel the trips to the mall, cancel everything except emergency services.

And I'm sure the folks who man the subways are not interested in staying at work all weekend. I doubt if they get paid enough for that.

Finnish Railway's biggest enemy is winter... in Finland.. which comes every year.

Same can be said about southern Finns. Really, winter comes every year, how are you not prepared for it?

Reminds me of our own road services.
In november they boast how they're prepared for winter, snowfall is forecasted a week in advance and when snow falls they claim they were surprised by it.

VR's ability to fail year after year is truly impressive. Could it perhaps be that they and State have cut too many corners in rolling stock and infrastructure maintenance respectively? (yes, thats somewhat rhetoric question)

Indeed! "Talvi yllätti autoilijat" (Winter surprised motorists) is propably most popular newspaper headline ever...

Neal,

I'm in the middle of it. 30 inches of snow. Schools are still closed. Military bases are closed as well. But hey, I made it to work Monday and today. Go figure. The clean up crews did an excellent job.

And this was my God send for digging out. Nothing short of a work horse. I got it for free. They said it would not start. Pulled the carb and cleaned. Started first pull.

Drunk person with a gun. What could possibly go wrong.

I wonder if there will be a call to ban alcohol? If this man did not have access to alcohol, this tragic incident would not have happened.
