Well it's good to know most people seem to have their head screwed on right in this forum.
Just one patrol was tempting, untill I realised even that meant around 4 weeks with 'smelly men' (is there any other kind, let's be honest) and the other side trying it's best to kill you, plus all the other horrors of war.
Just knowing that the torpedo I'm about to fire, will kill at least five sailors right off the bat on impact, plus the few drownings once the ship sinks, is enough for me not to order it.
A little too much stress for this city boy.
Of course, fighting for your country if you think the cause is right, at that moment, is a whole different matter.

it would be nice to sail on a real Uboat
but in combat? I rather not to.
ofcourse I want to sink a dummy merchant for the training I would like to feel the experience to see that ship throught a periscope and KABOOM! Torpedo hit

Looking back through military history shows us just how many civilians answer their countries 'call to arms' in times of need despite the fact the same source also points out the number of fatalities war inevitably creates. :hmm:

I do recall from my History GCSE's that when Churchill ordered the bombing of several German cities, it was specifically to aggrivate Hitler enough, that he would be goaded into rather than bombing where they were bombing they bomb the cities thereby giving the RAF chance to recover. I would go even with all those living conditions I feel that the title u-boat captain is one of the most honourable titles out there especially if I continued after 1943. I've always pushed it to the extremes so why not travel back to WW2 and fight it

I agree on that 80% of hitlers army was fighting on the Eastern front, the German U-Boats were succesful and over exceeded their expectations by a fair margin (im just adding on to what you said). Somewhere in SH3 at the end of the war you get the message from donitz telling that you have succeded in your mission however the fatherland has fallen or something along the lines. I dont know if this is what he said in reality but heck it sure sounded like it.

When talking about blunders, don't forget that they put off the production of the Type XXI until it was too late as they thought they'd have the war won and there would be no need for it.
