Actually, that's a big draw for a lot of MMOs. Partying up and doing instances in WoW and similar such things in other MMOs are high on the fun factor. Not to mention I've met some fun people - it's not all assmonkeys playing these types of games.
Exactly. Im sratching my head at what GlobalExplorer means when he mentions no such co-operative rpg's exists? There's many RPG's today with the co-op options. Wow & most mmos are big on co-op play.
MMOs suck imo. I'm only interested in singleplayer games, but I would like to have a LAN option to play these with one or two friends.

Im inclined to agree with you, and ive played MANY of them. The MMO genre promised to be the "next big thing" in gaming, but i think its lost its direction, and gotten out of hand. These days, MMO isnt about the gameplay, so much as getting the end user addcited enough so they keep shelling out the 15 clams. The first MMO's were truly innovative, but now, they all seem to follow the same standard mold - designers going with whats been proven to work, rather then trying to come up with a better game. WoW is no different, at its core, its basicaly diablo2, asherons call, and everquest all rolled into one.

That and whats the point of an MMO when everyones concerned about soloing? That is what the majority do, or want these days. To solo. Ok, so why play a multiplayer game then? Seriously, a game like ES4: Oblivion has everything alot of people are looking for, sans chat window to wave their epeen around in.

Yeah but oblivion is a single player once you get to the end then what - wait for mods ok thats great too, but it misses one good thing which only mmo's can achieve and thats playing with others, group questing, doing instances/raids, 25 of you heading to attack say the alliance camps <-- that there what makes mmos or wow so big. Then once you get to 70 you think thats its thats only the begining you got Epic gear to worry about

I know i sound like a stauch wow supporter but really i just support any game that offers playing alongside other people instead of just going up against the AI all the time. when playing SH2 v Destroyer command multiplayer even tho just one on one i played it for years over a lan, if Ubisoft brought out Destroyer Command 2 for SH4 or 3 i did probably drop WoW... Although this is going way to far To most ppl when you log off (any game) your back in the real world so put those fantasy thoughts away till you log on again.

Doesn't work for everyone though...

Chinese Teen Plays World of Warcraft. Fire Mage In Real Life, Seriously Burns Classmate

A 17 year old Beijing boy had a fight with a classmate and lost. He took revenge a few days later by dumping a water bottle full of gasoline onto the classmate and lighting him on fire. The victim ended up with burns on 55% of his body, including third-degree burns on 38% of his body. (Click here to read the Chinese article.)

The perpetrator claimed he had lost himself in World of Warcraft and when he committed the crime he had transformed into a Fire Mage.

One keeps hearing stories like that, always from Asia (China / Korea).

Imo that proves that repressing emotion isn't a good thing .. if that's what makes the Chinese do these things.

Great, now you've got me addicted to PotBS...

EA has or will screw that over and make it rather bad...prepare to be greatly disappointed...

I have to admit ive also completely lost interest in MMO's as well, to me they have become just a giant repetitve grind fest/time sink. I honestly find playing them very dull and boring. In fact I pretty much only play single player stuff any more (though i would be interested in small multiplayer rpgs and the like so i could mess around in games like Oblivion with friends).

Unfortunatly it seems to me the general game industry is becoming more and more focused on multiplayer only games, games with a very small amount of single player content and mostly multiplayer, and mmo's

Back to MMO's about the only MMO I would be interested would have to be either a modern day mmo warfare sim, or maybe an rpg in a relativly untouched area (like say a feudal japan mmo, or futuristic space and land mmo). I am utterly sick to death of the standard fantasy MMO's. Preferably one which didnt require you to play 12 hours a day as a second job to get anywhere.

Last night i reach peak lvl in wow, im now 70

Started playing wow July07 5 months of grinding was well worth it. I can truely now relax the motive to play wow daily cause i got to level up is not there. So now what do i do, well while waiting for the Lich King expansion to come out 2009 its now all about getting Epics gear doing arenas 2v2.-5v5 or battegrounds capture flag, take bases etc., with the honor i get i use to buy epics. I just did an Alterac Valley raid with 20 others v Aliance players it was awesome kinda like hold the bases to FPShooters, we won totally kicked the Alliance ass.

But heres the catch i went into Hall of legends last night to look at what i could be fighting for, for example to get my a epic gun its going to cost me 21000 honor and many badges, 60 for this item. Thats just for the gun i still want the armor, and other weapons.

Thats many months of gameplay right there, plus now as a 70 whenever i do a quest theres no XP rewards but a hefty gold reward. That there is great as i need lots of gold.

So yeah wow has grabbed me by the nuts once again and wont let go... But hey i dont mind!

Its taking over my life...

I've been playin' the hell out of Pirates of the Burning Sea. I've said my goodbyes to fantasy MMOs lately.

The industry has ceased to be a place for the kind of creative minds that brought us the wonderful games of the 80's and 90's. No matter where you look, the creativity and enthusiasm has gone, all that matters is churning out graphically impressive games, that sell and become boring quickly.

Fortunately the field is open for creative people to start their own companies. Nowadays I mostly play games like GalCiv2 , Ageods American Civil War , Battle of Britain 2.

The last big title I bought in a shop and really enjoyed was SHIII, thats almost 3 years ago now.

I also play a lot of classics that I missed when they were new (Jagged Alliance 2, Fallout 1+2, Close Combat).
