Much thanks for your efforts gentlemen,

Yesterday I requested a new boat, the USS Permit, but did not have a link to the boat's battle flag at the time. I have since found one here:

The page shows two images, an early war and a late war version. I like both, but since my current career is still in December 1941 I guess that the early war version is appropriate.

The Sea Tiger in the movie Operation Petticoat was portrayed by three different submarines:

USS BALAO (SS285), was painted pink and was used for exterior shots in and around Key West, Florida.
USS ARCHERFISH (SS311) wore the standard colors of grey and black, and was used for interior and exterior shots.
USS QUEENFISH (SS393) was used in opening and closing scenes, as well as for at sea shots and was filmed in and around San Diego.

Some of the plot points of the movie were based on real-life incidents. Most notable were scenes set at the opening of WW-II, based on the actual sinking of the submarine USS Sealion (SS-195), sunk at the pier at Cavite Navy Yard, the Philippines; Commander Shermans letter to the supply department on the inexplicable lack of toilet paper, based on an actual letter to the supply department of Mare Island Naval Shipyard by Lieutenant Commander James Wiggin Coe of the submarine Skipjack (SS-184); and the need to paint a submarine pink, due to the lack of enough red lead or white lead undercoat paint.

The underlying story behind the opening sceens and other key spots in the movie, as well as this sound bite of Cary Grant are based on the following real message:

The Kraken now has your new skin, issued December 23 but not discovered by me until this morning. Your website is a little hard to navigate. I finally googled it for "kraken" and found my stuff! I installed it when I'm submerged, avoiding a DD party. I was invited but I didn't RSVP. I just hate wasting torpedoes on them.

Conning tower shot. I'll be getting you my kill info soon, after I decode the logbook. What a lousy format it has! What's the dividing line to a small merchant?
It's the best I can do til I get clear. Think I'll abandon this convoy and seek less heavily defended prey. Fair fights are not what I seek.

Glad you're enjoying it, RR. As for the small merchant category, I just count sampans, junks and fishing boats as small merchants. It's kind of up to you. You might pick some arbitrary tonnage to decide on what's small and what's not. Perhaps sqk or someone with more knowledge than I can come up with a definitive answer on the definition of "small".

P.S. Don't blame ya one bit for not RSVPing, it's much easier to crash the party that way.
