I hink BW is cool too, but I still want more effects from Premier pro on that - will have to do some sort of search on extra plugins later.

Here's a little 4mb preview I made - I thought I should have released it before the whole thing, but forgot! Anyway, here it is. :|\

Saw the new one in BW, and it's nice and nicer.

Amazing work Type941, I can't believe my eyes. Great SHOW of the SHIII engine :-) I have one question, which video codec is used to compression? Some DIVX or XVID or anything else?

Yeah, you definitely did a good job with the MPEG codec here, seems to have worked really well. It does always have the big advantage of being the most compatible codec - anyone with a Windows machine can run it without ever installing anything on their computer

That is precisely why I don't use Avi, Divx, Xvid and such.

DivX/XviD is AVI. Well, .avi is just a container

The style of the footage helps here, since it trickily covers up some of the compression issues. MPEG 1 is a pretty good codec, but it scales poorly into high bitrates, which is what you need when you want the real crisp imagery. XviD, DivX, and other newer codecs are still better for that.

But hey, if you can balance compatibility and quality like you successfully did here - all the power to you

That fact that I don't know that avi IS Xvid/Divx is probably why I shouldn't use it. I tried VDub and just did save as Avi and ended up with a 13GB - after that, I said 'stuff it' and went back to my good old premier pro!

I liked it in color. Just because color photography wasn't used very much in the 1940's ( but they sure did have color film ) dose'nt mean it should be seen in B&W in order to be a classic.

Today on TV and the movies when they show old shows made back then is ok because thats the way it was filmed , but when these modern shows go to black & White to feature a past flashback or something is absured. We today have a very good color technology and it should allways be used. ( well maybe not for X-Rays as color screws that up )

I think people can recognize a segmet in the past for the clothes worn back then or the older cars etc. so it should be color.

Color I tell ya. :rotfl:

Ok, ok I'm out of here, you don't have to tell me twice.

Yes yes, just that Bismarck photos in action were all BW so I was tempted to do a BW version as well . It only takes 1 hour to export it .

I think Discovery had a series called War in Color or something like that, when all the footage they showed from WW2 was in color. I never really watched it completely, but the bits I've seen were quite nice - a bit grainy, bit oversaturated and contrasty, but quite cool as far as quality goes.

For example, growing up I was used to the image of WW2 as always BW, grey skies, and generally, gloomy looking scenes. Yet, with these color footages it reminded me that there were also sunny days, and colorful scenes.

However, with so much 'speed up' 'black and white' film showing thousands of casulties, it is probably not too bad it wasn't all color, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, back to the movie. For me personally, there are several shots I liked best and made a point of filiming on purpose (rest, was spontaneous):

- The U-Boat foreground/Bismarck background scene - to give the sense of size, as well as some people into the scene

- german flag in the beginning with the music, just to give it that 'evil force is on the way' feel

- Goetland sighting of Bismarck in Kattegat - first real visual contact taht alarmed the British

- Prinz Eugen at night near Rugen, and sort of showing off how good that camouflage could work in the darkness - when the dark bow/stern really do hide the dimensions (bar SH3 glowing wake)

- Bismarck being shot from top as airplane flows by - it's the same Fjord she was parked, same approx. 500m from the shore, etc.

- the Fog scene - sense of scale, dramatic 'jump out of Fog' scenario, something very cool about it

- the guy in radio room senging a message on first contact with Bismarck in the Denmark Strait - the Chase is ON.

- the image of 2 british BBs in on the horizon in Denmark strait, and other 'distance' shots - all modelled on photographs

- all of the last scene shots leading up the the final battle:

~ Bismarck makes a 180 turn to shake off the cruisers pursuing it (always on the horizon in real life, but that time there was fog and it should have been a surprise)

~ Ark Royal aircraft/cruiser squadron that launched the bombers

~ Torpedo hitting the rudder/Bismarck firing back at constantly harassing airplanes

- Final Battle - several shots that are similar to what you find in drawings, such as the close up, 'guns ablazing' and sinking stern first

- 4 torpedoes hitting Bismarck from heavy cruiser Dorcheshire (for our purpuses, just a Fiji but hey!)

-------
Now, I wonder what OTHER episode in WW2 i can recreate using Sh3, something about Sharnhorst and Gnesenau, the Ugly Sisters perhaps? Their siluhettes is very simlar to bismarck, and the size is very close as well. Or something Submarin-ish...
:hmm:

Well I personally think you did one heck of a good job on those films and will be watching for another perhaps.

Make up a two hour war movie taken from SH3, slap it on DVD's, set up a sale for them and you'll be a milloniare in no time.

But stay away from that lousy Starfarce on your dvd's. :rotfl: :rotfl:

And than end up with my name in a banned circle in signatures around forum, sayin 'boycotte Type941'.

No, but may be Ubisoft will call me up and ask me to make them their next SH4 intro vid! Hopefully the right person is reading.

And by the way,

That was just great! I love your music. It gave you the ability to really set the mood for your scene. On my next move I think I'll take your lead and use other sound tracks and not just the SHIII
music.

I know how much work you put into getting all those shots and it shows!

How did you get the steady cam shot off the wing of the air plane as it flew over the ships?

One thing ...and maybe I'm a slow reader.... but your film narrative
went by a little fast for me as did the credits. (remember it could just be me )

Great work. Look foreword to you're next film.

Sounds good but the problem is COPY RIGHTS. You'd have to get them from UBISOFT in order to make a film you could sell, and then they would want royalties and the same would go for all the music you use. It's a bummer but we are using their software for a commercial use.

I teach voice-over classes at a local school and this is one of the topics that come up in class regarding the use of other peoples or companies property for personal gain. Maybe UBISOFT would let you do it for free. I don't know.

Take care
