Hello guys,

this LSH3V5-MOD may work fine with other MODS, but be aware that it is implemented for every single LSH3V5-Ship (not for fishing boats and this stuff).
So please don't argue if some of the GWX-ships do not show the signals.

The Merchants fire the white signal, if your U-boat is detected and the red one, when the ship sinks.

Concerning the warships, only escorts and destroyers use the white signal - light crusiers and higher do not use them anymore.

Regards

Thanks for the clarification Fitzcarraldo and Blueduck.

My question now concerns realism, did merchant ships fire white starshells to illuminate the area if they suspected a u-boat's presence? Surely this would only help the u-boats see their targets more easily. Recently there was a mod released that removed serchlights from merchants for this very reason. I like the idea of red distress flares when a ship is going down, but am not certain about merchants illuminating the convoy with starshells, perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge on this subject could clarify?

Early in the war merchants in convoy were given starshells, with the idea being that the instant a fellow merchant was torpedoed that everyone would fire the starshells, turning night into day and hopefully allowing the escorts to easily see any surfaced subs. They were known as "snowflake" flares, and use of them directly led to the torpedoing of the first escort carrier, HMS Audacity. A report on a convoy battle that details the use of these snowflakes can be found here. It also details one convoy that no one here ever wants to meet. http://thomo.coldie.net/naval/hg-76-...-december-1941

Thanks for the information! In my test of the LSH3 V5 Flares submod in GWX, no problems. Of course, some merchants haven´t the flares, but it seems realistic for me. Not all the ships shoot the flares...

Regards.

Where can I download this LSH3 V5 Flares submod? Please don't tell me that I must download full LSH3, it would take whole day...

Here you have, Wolk: ftp://maikhaas.dyndns.org/Volume_1/S...nal_LSH3_V4.7z

-----------

Many conflicts with it in GWX. Eg. with great "remove searchlights from merchants" mod

Dear,
I tried LSH3 V4 submod Flares.
Result: the smoke stacks of ships out in big white squares.
Or is the error?
Claude.

The flares and shiphorns is an optional submod of the LSH3 V5 supermod. You must download the entire mod...But the supermod is awesome, and I highly recommend you make a parallel install of SH3 (via MultiSH3), with LSH3. I have two installations: SH3 + GWX and SH3 + LSH3V5 (both over-modded...)

Regards
