I just found my newest favorite spot on the whole Earth. The time is 0839, the date January 16 1940. The place is AM 35. I get word from BDU of an enemy task force and I figure, "what the hell, I'll check it out." My watch officer calls out a contact and I think, 'well at least my intercept course was right..' and swivle my UZO around to the bearing and draw a beed on a tall mast out in the distance. Thanks to the watchful eye of my weapons officer I am well informed that I have found both the HMS Hood and the HMS Revenge as the lead elements of this task force. No aparant escorts. No other sound contacts on the phones. Christmass just arrived early I think.

Apon further investagation I found an escort, four tribal class distroyers. What ever shall I do?

You hit it or your torpedoes hit it? First one I seen was there and I watched as three torpedoes hit it so I figured something had to be down there

Speaking of hunting grounds, is it possible to catch up to the June 6th
D-Day convoy bound for normandy?

"food for thought..."

I hit it, was stupidly at 4xTC, have learnt from that!

Now I'm dead, V&W class destroyers destroyed me.

Started again and was last seen just South of Iceland ducking from a Sunderland before activating sticky-keys and crashing me to desktop!

Hey-Ho!

Talk about a target rich environment! You could just set your torpedoes to magnetic and fire them down whatever bearing you wanted, at random! Though, I would suspect an insane amount of destroyers and fighters would converge on you so fast it would make your head spin!

I am starting a new career now that I have GWX3.0 installed. Before that, I always had good luck East of Dover at the channel entrance where it bottle necks. Not right at Calais, but further North/East where you enter the channel. I took six unescorted, lone merchants of various size in the same patrol grid, in the same night, in that area on my last patrol.

So I take it that you can't attack the D-Day Convoy bound for Normandy?

lol those damn sticky keys eh, out by gibraltar they got some odd nets (I had to go Under the net then I had to go back to 12m to avoid a deep minefeild (these are on the north coast just as you pass the port on the way to the medetaranian)

Many a Liner and a convoy frequent Halifax regularly.

I've just started a brand new career in a VIIA and I'm cruising between the Isle of Skye and the Isle of Lewis (south of Stornoway). There's a large number of medium sized merchants and few destroyers but a Swordfish scared the hell out of me last night.

I would assume since Halifax was a main staging point for cross Atlantic convoys to form up at, that there would be a fair number of targets in the area.

I can't wait to get a long range boat and head over the North America to look around. Hopefully some of the cities and harbours have been put together nicely!

Nothing to stop you crossing in a Type VII and linking up with a milch cow either on your way there or on the way back.

At about 8 knots a TypeVII will do over 33000 kilometers in good weather. If you're careful with your fuel, and patient, there's nothing to stop you even without a refuel point.

I'm managing to do it from keil in a VIIB without re-fueling, you just have to take it slow
