Popular hunting grounds?
 

So, as we all work for the same...ahhem,..person, were does everyone like to hunt? Also your flotilla and boat class are appreciated.

Personaly, I have hunted Scapa in the early war outa the 7th Flotilla in my VIIB, with, on this new patrol, a battleship and an Auxilerary cruiser in the same area.

Later on when im transfered to St. Naz, i like the Irish sea, as there is useualy a convoy comeing from the north, or, if i feel lucky, i go to Gibraltar for a few DDs.

At the moment im in a VII/B out of Kiel (7/13th Flotilla), and my favourite/most reliable hunting ground has been around Rockall Bank. Always find a steady supply of lone merchants/convoys there:yeah:

out around lerwick is where i go.... iia or d and 1st flotilla early war.

July 1941, Type 7C (7th\13th), based at St. Naz.
If possible I head toward AM 52 for singles and convoys.
I have heard rumors of a tanker route somewhere between BE 33 toward BE 58.:salute:

In between Ireland and Scotland where it narrows to around 20km, Is the spot I've been using. Anything that passes through is heard or seen

AM52, AM53, BF17, Rockall Banks, entire eastern coast of England.

2nd Flotilla, Type IXB 250km west of Gibraltar....convoy killer.

I'm operating out of Bergen, early years and don't seem to make it much further than Ireland before needing to rearm, I don't hit anything, I think the game is to see just how close your torpedoes can get without exploding. Went to Scapa the other day for the first time and was shocked at the (lack of) depth, and my first run-in with a net! Luckily as it was Scapa I'd ensured a full roster at damage control.

For the longest time I have operated out of St. Naz with the 7th in a VIIC late in the war. Operating mostly near Ireland, South West by in large. The Rock Wall bank and the Irish sea have been fruteful. Hiting up the convoy routs into and out of England. I have also found sucsess with that boat and base at Gerbralter and off the East coast of Canada and America.

I just reasently picked up a IX in '39 and have been operateing up and down the East coast of Britony.

If your in a type IX/D2, head out to the carribbean, not far from Curraco where you'll find plenty of lone tankers:D

I'll have to make my way over to that side. Unfortuantly I am stationd with the 2nd and it is still late in '39 or vary early in '40 and we have yet to be restationed outside of Germany. As soon as we get over to N. France though I have designes on terorising the Caribian.

For me, Fuel isnt a problem, but batery life is, so i can go just about anywere i want, provided i have the patients to do so.

Also, i found if you dont liek the IIA/D, start with the 7th in '39, and after a few patrols, transfer to the 1st/2nd for a bit, cuts out some travle time, and give you a free 7B.

Early war till 1943, I prefer to hunt in the Irish sea. You can quickly find lots of convoys, and the air cover isent too rough. When I hit 43 I normally shift to the deep waters NW of Ireland, one can still find plenty of convoys there, and the much deeper waters allow you to escape the tougher escorts that arrive in 43. Also air cover doesn't seem as bad in this area.

I jump straight to an IX D2 at beginning of 1943. I can't stand early war, not much of a challenge for me anymore.
I prefer Arabian sea and straights of Madagascar.
If I haven't transfered to penang on my opening patrol that usually lasts for 10 months, I would just go to the Caribbean for a bit, then back south.

I've just been on my first patrol south past Gibraltar and then out west of the Canaries, January/February 1940, and have found the area in and around grids DH71/72 an excellent hunting ground. The convoy lanes out of Sierra Leone go right through there, some convoys seem to be heading for England and some turn ENE and cut between Madeira and the Canaries en route to Gibraltar.

Hit one convoy when I first got there that had no warship escort and nothing but an armed freighter for protection. Bagged two large merchants and two ore carriers.

After resupply at Corrientes I swung back around to patrol the same area while working my way north and home. Intercepted another convoy that had one DD escort and another armed freighter - took out the destroyer and then got a 8000+ ton tanker and three ore carriers.

I've taken down over 70000 GRT, I think, in less than a month of patrolling in that region. Plus in the time I've been down there I've had reports of two other convoys coming along the same route, only I didn't have the ammo left to go after them. :wah:
