As for the 700MB, that's about the same size as 1.1a really. Personally I'd just RAR it up, splitting up into chucks if you needed to. That way those with slower connections could juggle 3-5 pieces of downloads while those with broadband would be able to just download it once, unrar into a install folder and burn that to DVD/CD.
The installer will take care of compression and disk spanning. Any further compression will be superfluous and actually counter-productive as you will also be able to install GWX direct from your backup CD/DVD/whatever (actually, just like you can GW1.1a). Further compressing by you will lose that ability in addition to having nil impact on reducing the overall file sizes.

The installer's pretty smart, ya know.

I can do a patrol in one night.

Yeah, but Lehman said it would be made available for download to the dev team first, and that that would take a few days.

Gizzmoes idea is very good, I never use the grammophone either, and it shouldn`t be to much hazzle to download that seperately for those who want it.

How about sounds and "Skins" as an additional addon?

That's actually a really good idea. I don't use the grammophone, either. It would sure be nice to not have to download all the music files when I don't use them. I've been meaning to suggest this for quite a while but have totally forgot.

thats a GREAT idea, im so glad i have broadband though, 700+ mg on a 50k connection would be terrible

I'm sure everyone appreciate the huge effort and dedication you and the rest of the team put into this. I know everyone would have liked to have GWX yesterday but I am also sure that everyone agrees that it's better to have the mod in the best condition possible, even if that means a few more days of waiting. Keep up the good work Kpt. Lehmann and do not worry about any delays. We all understand the complications of the project and we are sure that it is going to be more spectacular than GW

Again Thank you Very Much

I'm fine with separating the gramophone files as well.

Bottom line is that we get everything one way or another, since we know youall have worked so long on all the changes you've made for GWX. It would be a shame if you couldn't give us some of it.

I agree..

Gizzmoes idea is a good one.Seeing as I dont use the gramaphone at all either while playing that would be that much less that I would have to download.

Another 59MB could be saved by not including the - IMO totally unnecessary - enhanced seafloor textures (28MB compressed) and the Das Boot background movie (31 MB compressed). So that would be a 139MB smaller archive = about 7 hours less download time for 56k users, or about 5 hours less with ISDN.

Well gizzmoe I hope for the 56K users that they use some sort of download app that saves data while pausing or disconect
just imagine ur on 99% of the download only 20 second to go...and ur mom calls u....:rotfl:

but yes indeed, Broadband users wont really bothered with it. but for small band it is a time saver.

But all those extra things make GW what it really is! Like the Kpt. said once, the files are too interdependant for you to just go and replace cartain files. I'm sure it would be quite a mess.

GW will be done as is.No need to remove/leave out items.
We like the Das Boot vid.so do alot of other players, the devs gave us jack sh1t in the gramaphone, we added to it...if you dont want it delete it or dont use it simple

Has Kpt. Lehmann said that or is that your personal opinion?

Yea Pants. We're giving these suggestions because the Kpt said the file was too big. So are you saying that everything is fine now?
