Default Today's my Saint day, do you celebrate that in your country?

Today is my Saint's day, meaning today is the day the catholic church dedicates to St. Albert (Which is my real name - without the "Saint" of course ): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albertus_Magnus

In Spain this is nearly as important as the birthday, so all of us who are called "Alberto" celebrate it with the family. Since my first son also has the same name (And my father, and grandfather, and grand-grandfather, and even earlier, he's the 6th already) , I spent my Saint's day morning taking him to the Zoo and buying him a present , but nevertheless it's our Saint Day, for all of us. Do people in other countries have a celebration on the day dedicated to their name? Just curious :hmm:

BTW drinks are on me today

I'm not aware of such in the UK....but we do have dedicated days to certain saints such as St George, St Andrew and St Patrick etc.

I'm named (middle) after St. Francis but it's not the custom here in the states to celebrate My Saint day.

It is a catholic thing, and since I'm protestant, I don't celebrate it.
I don't even know when my Saint's day is, even though I am named after two, one Apostle and one greek 8th century bishop.

In medieval times (well at least the C15th) in England it was usuall to celebrate the saint's day associated with your name rather than your birthday. It's interesting to see this is still celebrated this way in Spain.
I think it's a kind of fun way of doing things, it stops people hiding their birthdays!
