@Steamwake... its pretty simple, but takes patience and vigilance. if you have a puppy and you want to use that trick, just put the bell on the door knob hanging low enough where he can bump it with his nose. about every hour or hour and a half go to the door and enthusiastically use a key word like "Go potty!" or "outside!" and reach down and give the bell a ring for a second or two. depending on the breed this will become a routine within a few days or even a week or two. eventually the dog associates the bell on the door with going to use the bathroom or going outside to play etc. if he desires to be outside you will know it when you hear that "ring ring ring" works like a charm!
