They disengage!
When the DDs get hurt (to a certain ammount) they refuse to keep up the fight against me. They stop to drop DCs at me and turn away. They simply try to run their regular routine, but they still fire their guns. As an convoy escort they take their original position and stay there. When I surface in weapons range they shoot at me, but stay on course. (GWX 2.0)

Some units will withdraw...depending on what damage they sustain alongside the pre-condition that whatever is damaged impedes their ability to continue the fight.
eg: radar, sonar etc.

I've had destroyers run like a bat out of hell after I've damaged them. It makes it hard to sink them too because they outrun me !
