There is no logic to it. It's one of those "Twilight Zone" things

This is one of those influenza things that occasionally strikes some and not others. It has happened to me. The only way I can cure it is to save, exit to Main Menu and reload my save. That always fixes it. Just saving and re-starting never does it for me.

Same thing happened to me yesterday evening. On the surface cruising when I hit F4 (Bridge view) and noticed no crew on watch duty. Then after a while the CO2 icon popped up.
Nothing I did would make it go away until I saved, exited to main menu, and reloaded the save. |

It's happened to me twice as well & the save / reload has cleared it up both times.
