You guys pay insurance premiums in the event of you needing an operation or treatment or whatever. The deductions from the pay cheque are variable... the higher earners pay a little more the lower earners pay less. Is there any variability in health insurance premiums to account of income? Also the idea of taking out an insurance policy... I wouldn't be comfortable with that. To the insurance people you are a thing... a potential loss of profit. Insurance companies like nothing better than to not pay out. So I like our health care system too. I just wish it was run better, and was of a higher standard... because that is what our Labour politicians have promised over the last decade.... ![]() |

Part of the issue with our Health Care System is the failure to properly anticipate the shortages with regards to all of the boomers retiring, this is one of the reasons for the long wait times in some of the professions, surgeries being one. Related to this is the loss of leadership with those boomers retiring, that is not replaced easily and has contributed to the situation ( vision, ability to problem solve ) here.
A bigger issue though are the users themselves of the system, instead of taking some personal responsibility for their own health, they view hospitals as the place to go to fix all of their problems. I have been to outpatients on more than one occasion and most of the folks there did not need to be. This kind of stuff is a huge drain on the system and takes away from those who really need the care. Up until the last 3-5 years though, I have been more than happy with our system. RDP |

We have the best health care in the wolrd, but no system if perfect. Get used to it!
I mean, when people get sick around the world, they don't go to Germany, or France, or Spain, or the UK - They avoid them like the plague!!! Where do they go? America! No where else! We may have to pay insurance premiums, but at the end of the day, that buys us the best stuff money can buy bar none! That is what i want if I ever get sick! Not some Socialist medicine that is a decade or more behind ours! Crazy! And I get worked on same day if i need it here for any ailment. -S |

Best healthcare as in quality of healthcare or best in terms of provision.
Yes no health care system is free, difference is is it free at point of service, or do yo upay up front. We in the UK pay our N.I. like Penelope has said and it varies with your income earn more pay more. Also you aren't denied this insurance depending on your risk toward certain things. Also is your insurance unlimited? What happens if you end up in intensive care, need a bunch of surgery and then your insurance runs out,,,what if it doesn't cover you? Your'e out on the street...that happened to a friend of ours in the Texas.... So I prefer my system where I KNOW for sure without a doubt I can get care, I won't be turned away and don't have to trek halfway across town to go to a clinic that will treat me. |

-S PS. Most people in Europe have no idea that anyone that wants to be covered over here can be if you go through Medicare, with restrictions of course, so we get the best of both worlds, and the best equipment money can buy. I've seen what socialized medicine buys for medical equipment - its pretty pathetic. Over here, hospitals are like country club and everyone is always checking up on you to see how you are doing. In socialized medicine, you're lucky if a nurse comes in to check at all! |

Anyway the video linked is pure rubbish, I didn't even bother watching past the first 30 seconds. Having free health care doesn't make people think "hey it's free, let's break myself some bones and go to the hospital". Yet another troll

I've been injured quite badly during my short life once upon a time... I never went to America to get better. You think you've got the best healthcare in the world? On what do you found that that claim? When there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/12/opinion/12sun1.html http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-healthcare.htm http://www.who.int/whr/2000/media_ce.../en/index.html If you read only the first paragraph of the World Health link... it says France has the best overall medical provision, followed by Italy, Spain, Oman, Austria and Japan. America ain't even on the list! WHO's reports rank your healthcare as 37th as compared to the UK's 18th. So the US health system is NOT the best in the world. Far from it in fact. The French healthcare is the best in the world. So tell me... why would "they" want to avoid the countries you list like plague... when they are all better than the US model? |

And the rest of your reports focus on life expectancy, yet fail to notice stress and effects of society. It takes better medicine here to counteract the fast pace of life, and the severely over weight population - but nothing you report takes that into account. Want to see what hospitals really look like in Cuba? Here ya go! ![]() ![]() |

Americans seem to be going elsewhere for medical treatments, rather than people coming to America for the same. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06253/719928-37.stm http://www.news-medical.net/?id=20878 http://www.freemoneyfinance.com/2006...ving_ti_1.html http://www.aarp.org/health/doctors/a..._treatment.htm |
