My brother has done the same VII and it looks awesome even without weathering.
I myself am busy (ish) on the revell USS Constitution frigate. About 50% complete (hull is done, have to begin on rigging and sails) but it just looks stunning! I did have completed a smaller (1:144) version of the type VII and a type XXI. Modeling (ships) is a great way to spend your time! And it just looks great on display.
