At least they use a real name. All the German and Japanese stuff is called "Type". What kind of name is that!?

heh we slovaks too have invented a couple of interesting weapons and guess what - they are named as women. Big howitzer is called Zuzana (Susan) and the minesweeping vehicle is Bozena

From the dictionary.com definition:

12.(usually initial capital letter

) U.S. Military. a designation for an item of military equipment in production, used in combination with a numeral to indicate the order of adoption, and often abbreviated: a Mark-4 tank; an M-1 rifle.

Simply put, "mark" has the same definition as "type" or "version"
