everything "Mark"??
there is something that keeps bothering me: why the americans named almost each weapon "Mark"? there are tanks Mark, grenades Mark, torpedoes Mark... It is pretty confusing. Would not it be simplier to have tanks Mark, grenades Peter, torpedoes Jack etc??:hmm:

At least they use a real name. All the German and Japanese stuff is called "Type". What kind of name is that!?
|
heh we slovaks too have invented a couple of interesting weapons and guess what - they are named as women. Big howitzer is called Zuzana (Susan) and the minesweeping vehicle is Bozena:)

Look it up in Webster, that might explain. ;)

From the dictionary.com definition:
12.(usually initial capital letterhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/g...una/thinsp.png) U.S. Military. a designation for an item of military equipment in production, used in combination with a numeral to indicate the order of adoption, and often abbreviated: a Mark-4 tank; an M-1 rifle. Simply put, "mark" has the same definition as "type" or "version" |
Brits did (do) it as well (glances to my gun safe containing my Number 1 Mark III rifle)

Don't forget Big Bertha! She was short but packed a punch. :)

We name our guns, too. The U.S. Army had a 155mm gun called "Long Tom".

Point taken:) I just cant understand why "Mark"...
|
"Mark" is just another word for "variation" or "version." That there is also a person's name "Mark" is coincidence.
|
Us Brits use the same A whatever thing as well, e.g. the SA-80A3 but it's still s**t!!
|
What do you have against Mark??????
Signed, Mark:rotfl: |
Somewhere in this tangled mess of gear i used from my hitch in the service, i have this pigsticker called a "Mark 3 Mod 0" go figure that one out for names. lol
