Well, Item 1: I'm not too sure how GWX handles the Uberboot... haven't tried that particular combination.
Item 2. Have you tried an emergency surface as soon as the game loads in, to try and "abort" the death plunge? That's all I got for ideas. Some of the vets will have more, I'm sure.
