Considering modern airline jets do it in around 6 hours, crossing the Atlantic in a half hour cannot be considered as a bad performance...

That's why I like my Type IXB. Shorter range but with the same payload.

I think Type VII is still my favorite though because of the maneuverability.

Basically, as soon as a transfer is requested, I'm out of Lorient. Has anyone else found the Type IXs to be somewhat of a disappointment?
Where do you intend to transfer to? and what boat? a type VII? :hmm:

I enjoy accompanying the Freetown convoys .

Have plenty of time to zap them each evening. Knowing I have plenty of time, I shoot at only sure targets per attack, often firing just one torpedo. By the end of a week, I've accumulated a respectable tonnage.

YEAH!

I got a career commanding a VII as well and i do notice more traffic, but that hasn't put me of hunting with the IXD2 boats which i do in the pacific.

Suggest poster #1 wait for the call to the pacific then head their, many many convoys - easy pickings for the IX boats just be very weary of the escorts
They hate you!

Press F1 when in the game and read the "Flotilla News I" It will tell you how you get transferred to the Pacific on first of september 1943, before this date you will get messages warning you of a possible transfer to Penang . You have to be based at Lorient for this to happen - i think.

I couldn't wait for this to turn up so i started a career in the Pacific port of Penang, get IXD2 straight away. But otherwise if you want to do it the right way wait around for the above to show up.
