Actually the best stand in for de Ruyter (and base for future real model) would be a GWX German Pocket Battleship. Resize it and equip it with 15 cm guns and you have de Ruyter
Sumatra and Java looked very similar to Emden III (the 1924 one), but in reality they were a bit larger and older than Emden III, but of course strongly influnced by german WW1 cruisers.
I always thought de Ruyter looked like "Graf Spee's little brother"
For Tromp and Heemskerck, the best base would be a Porter class destroyer, as those two were really flotilla leaders.
The Admiralen destroyers look a lot like british A-I class destroyers, but are of course larger.
That's a lot of useful information, I actually forgot about the Tromp and Jacob van Heemskerk, I figured those were captured by the germans in 1940. Guess I'm wrong. I'd do it If I actually had SHIII available to me (SHIV is my entry into the series, I'll be sure to look around for it). For now I'll contend with what I have available for placeholders and then we'll see. I mostly did this to get familiar with SHIV's filestucture and options.

Thanks for the info!

The captured incomplete cruisers were de zeven Provincien and Eendracht.
One of those was still in service with Peru some years ago (maybe still is) as the world's last active gun cruiser.
Those were "real" cruisers, not Flottilla leaders like Trom and Heemskerck, but I don't know their originally intended armament and specs.

Tromp was complete in 1940 and served in the netherlands east indies navy, but somehow missed the slaughter of 1942 and served on in the british eastern fleet.
Heemskerck was still unarmed when the germans invaded and was competed in britain.
As no 15 cm guns or similar were available, she was converted into an AA cruiser with 10 x 4.1" DP guns in five twin turrets in place of the 15 cm turrets and the torpedo tubes.

I like the story about this Dutch minesweeper:

"HNMS Abraham Crijnssen

The Crijnssen gathered fame during the Second World War, because of her spectacular escape from Surabaya to Australia in March 1942. Covered with treebranches, the minesweeper crossed the Japanese naval lines camouflaged as a tropical island."

Check your war facts or don't give stupid comments , many Dutch lost their lives there.

Guys,
I become very lunatic now. I have asked this 2 months ago to add the dutch
navy vessels.

My grandpa have served onto the

- java
- sumatra
- hertog hendrik
- Z7
- van Speijk
- Gelderland

So you can maybe understand that i am very proud now that i can see some
dutch vessels into the game.

When somebody want to know more details or photo`s, i have it all.
I own a book The cruisers Java and Sumatra and many other photo`s.
Maybe i can help to model the ships. You tell me!!

Btw i am surprised to read correct details under this subject.
Great guys!!!

Well, I'm not sure which classes are represented by UBI or other modders already but I figured the odds are slim because of the different operational theatre. Or did someone take the time to add all the ships?

Basicly I want to represent (to some degree) the dutch naval presence in the East Indies and Australia. So if SHIII has the Admiralen class destroyer, the Java class cruisers, the de Ruyter, the Tromp class cruisers, the K and O class submarines I'd like to see those very much. I don't particularly care too much about minesweepers and the types of lifeboats used (bamboo rafts were quite common).

I'm toying around with the mission editor to add patrols and taskforces until March '42. After that there's only the submarine service and some of the ships left in Australia. I need to find a good tutorial though.

I can understand your viewpoint, but please don't underestimate the dutch presence in the east indies. They basicly kept Australia safe from Imperial reach until their eventual downfall. Surabaya was quite a modern and well-stocked port.

Here's a site with dutch subs: http://www.dutchsubmarines.com/
A site with good info on the battles around The Indies: http://www.geocities.com/dutcheastindies/

Unfortunately there are no native Dutch warships in SH3 (to my knowledge). I would really love to see the Tromp class added though (to both SH3 *and* SH4, although it seems that we're not allowed to mention SH3 "over here").

Another nice Dutch addition would be the Dornier Do.24. That does exist as a mod in SH3 and I'm sure could be ported over.

Ah yes, the Dornier. Good spot, I'll add it to the "to-do" list.

I'm working on a Quick mission right now using the placeholders from 0.1 and I've stumbled into some factual errors from UBI.

Basicly when I spawned the ABDACOM fleet they were immediatly taken under fire from jap coastal batteries and sunk.

Rather odd considering the port was still in Dutch hands at the time. I've altered the jap_coastalbatteries.mis a bit so the batteries don't appear around Surabaya until well into april. Takes some time to build em I suppose.

Anyway during my first run the 3 java (houston class in disguise) class got beat by two destroyers and a light cruiser. So far so good.
