It would be a great idea except that saves under a number of conditions are apparently corrupt---and have been since SH3---so the autosaves would be useless a fair % of the time.

Can't believe they didn't think that was a SH3 showstopper. Yeesh.

yes a good feature for sure. several games include this already europa universalis and total war games come to mind

This is a good idea in principle, but as has already been said, if saves are iffy then it is possible that your recovery save will be corrupt. I think it is essential that the save game bugs are ironed out, because this is a major spoiler.
