A: One of the main ideas behind the career system in SH4 is to have the player's path through the navy change according to his performance. Hopefully the values needed to stay at sea beyond when the navy wants you behind a desk are in text file easily moddable. This sounds great!

That's really good news! I wish you could still play the game if you've got a desk job e.g. planing operations and the like.

It would be a nice feature to allow a character to spend some time at the desk after command and then be able to go back to sea in another boat. Historically, some of the successful commanders would do a 5 to 7 patrol career in one boat and then go back to new construction or spend several months on a submarine staff before being selected for another command.

If the game does not allow this type of career playablility, then perhaps the modding community can provide a fix.
