I agree with this, but it really depends on the ship and the weather conditions. If the sea is calm it can take days for the ship to sink (and there is a big if here). If the seas are rough then it always goes down within a few hours.

Recently, I've had good luck with large freighters after hitting them toward the stern. It stops them and they slide ass first after a while. Still not absolutely sure this has been a fluke.

I've been having better luck and been able to get the large merchants with two torpedoes mostly,

You know I accidently hit lg merchie with one fish well forward and sank very fast. But it was rough seas.

If you're running a mod like GW or NYGM then the odds for a critical hit with one torpedo shrink significantly. The ship's damage model is changed so that it sinks from flooding instead of exploding. It will sink eventually but it bust your chops first... The intention for these mods was to depict realistic sink times (although I find the result a bit unrealistic) and give the player a sense of uncertainty about the success of his hit.
So with these mods, more or less, forget about one torp kills, even if they occured pretty often in the real Atlantic (according to war diaries and logs)

Thats what I had thought too. Yeah a lg merchant is big. but it has no armor and nothing compared to a warships compartments. I'm sure some ships were quite stuborn
but that others rolled over and went down rapidly.

Your quite near the mark, but one torp kills are still achievable (even more so when you are aided by inclement weather).

In GWX I find it very easy to sink a large merchant with one torpedo hit. Much easier than large cargo, almost as easy as pyro ammunition ships. Aim at the bow, a little bit ahead of the forward "tower" (I don't know the proper English name; I mean the 'building', similar to a hous. ). If you hit it in the aft half, it won't sink almost for sure. Even if hit in the place I described above it usually takes a few hours to sink, but rarely it just blasts and I get a 'sunk' report immediately after the "torpedo impact" one.

It's still possible, keep up the good work!

You mean the bridge...? Yeah I've read about the bow hit in other postings too. I havent done it though. Theoretically the ship's movement should help the bow sink quicker (and of course take the rest of the sucker with it...)
