I once saw a drawing showing the sonar depths from a destroyer or so in every year of WWII.
What is a safe depth with respect to e.g. a destroyer or other surface ship, what should I do to not be noticed e.g. depth, distance etc. henny |

You might be referring to the artwork that Ducimus had a few years ago, where he shows the early war sonar as going to roughly a 200 foot depth, and the late war going to 300 foot plus. Those drawings are in the TMO Manual, on page 41/42. However, the game is not "precise" by any stretch of the imagination, and I was never able to get "below" the sonar in TMO. Of course, back then, If I had a Porpoise, I did not attempt to go any deeper than 250 foot, because that was their test depth... You can go quite a bit deeper in the game than that, but you definitely have to pay attention to the sounds and visual warnings the game gives you when approaching crush depth.
Early War: Later War: Of more importance is the aspect ratio you present to the sonar source: The less of your boat you "show" to sonar, the better. The less noise you make for the hydrophone, the better... ![]()
