That seems to be the most likely use for it. One of my friends says its for a:

I have a much smaller "elegant case" ...

but for draftsman's tools. I don't use them; it's a display item in my living room. Lucky find.

What if this suitcase has been in the hand of Al Capone or some other famous mafia leader.

Who knows, but when I picked it up I didn't get the same evil vibe that I got from standing at the Nurenburg Stadium podium where hitler gave his speeches, but maybe it was just too faint by comparison.

After all Capones body count hardly compares!
