I forgot about this one shooting it out from your base when the enemy took over it,not only you got surface ships to contemplate with but aircraft as well and 12m of water ain't going to help so it's a complete shoot out from dock to the channel (Lorient Oct 44) I think it's impressive if you survive you dont have time for screenies,I got out with 29%hull integrity.

I did a big stupid a few patrols ago: I was in my IXB, cruising surfaced during the night (approx. 1 AM) going to my patrol grid off of Halifax/Newfoundland, and my hydrophone guy tells me that there's five enemy warships closing with us, so I figure, "Eh, must be a small convoy with a DE at the head", so I submerged to PD, took a look through the 'scope, and what do I see? One Revenge-class BB escorted by 4 destroyers.

Me, being the overachieving fool that I am, armed all four fish in my forward tubes, and prepared to deep-six this British battleship (hey, almost 40,000 tons with one sinking, I'll take that, tyvm!). Perfect AOB (I had this beautiful picture of her port side), so I set my G7As to run fast, waited until I got past one of the DDs, went all stop all quiet, waited until he came within 1000 meters, and then...LOS! 3 hits, one missed, hit a destroyer on the other side of him, which later sank, and next thing I know, the 3 surviving DDs went crapping all over me.

Went down to 115 meters, took a DCing for about 2 hours, and decided, "Well crap, that Revenge probably is doing 10-15 knots out of here by now, but let's go see if that destroyer is still up there." Did so, and what do I see but that BB is listing pretty badly, so I figured, "Well, let's not waste another torpedo that we can use on some merchies later on," so I surfaced, ordered the deck gun manned, and got in eight hits with AP shells on the waterline before suddenly, KABOOM! Three 15-inch (I think that's what she has) shells come splashing in close aboard, and it's like, "Ah crap!"

Ordered a crash dive, then went back up to PD, showed her my two rear tubes, and fired tube 6 into him amidships, watched him sink.

No damage, but that was freaking crazy...I've gotta be the nutter around here. lol

I must just be boring... I never do this. I recall a post long ago, but not who posted it, but it said "It is not my job to look for a fair fight. it is my job to sink merchant tonnage". That, combined with the fact that I drive Type IIs most of the time...

I've taken on armed trawlers with my deck gun now and again. I once duked it out with a flower, he found to his cost I wasn't a pansey! I then took on a C class destroyer, but realising I was out gunned I submerged and took him out with a stern shot.

I did this insane thing because I had attacked a convoy, and wanted to go after some crippled Merchants that still floated. Just remember not to get between me and my prey, and we'll get on fine!

Since I started my IXC career, I've decided to use the extra torps in a different way: take out all the escorts and then pillage the merchants freely by deckgun and torpedo. It's proven to be a good tactic; last patrol i removed the 4 escorts of a convoy and came back with 88k. I was VERY happy, considering that 30 was a good run in a VIIB. Anyway, this last time it was a convoy full of black swans - 5 or so. It was hairy. I had to lure them away one at a time, and i did this by damaging a merchant so that it fell out of line, and then attacking it later. The BS came flying at me, and admittedly I cheated and used WE to get a solution. I hit the brute with a mag shot right under the forward hull, and she was hurting. She turned around and fled back to the convoy. I gave her a bit of time adn then surfaced and chased her, in a running fight (my 10.5 against her two stern guns) and I scored hit after hit, keeping her at >3000m, and she was only able to sprinkle seawater on my gunners. Periodically one of my hits would cause a secondary explosion, and finally her guns were silent. After a few more her boiler blew and down she went. It was FUN, and lucky.

But that's not the biggest. One time in single player (i realize that these are hack efforts) I engaged a wounded Nelson (crippled by 4 torps), in the dead of night, in a VIIB. I would let off a round and her main guns would give a salvo. But at the distance I was at (probably 3km) she couldn't score a hit. I just kept dropping them into her. I couldn't do any real damage, got bored, and decided to rush her firing. I got real close (~1.5, 2km) and she couldn't score a hit, probably on account of the poor light. Anyway, I fired right up until her, so I was under the elevation of her main guns, did a crash dive, went under her, and came up the other side for another run. It never concluded; i had to leave.

It's amazing what you can get away with at night.

Ramming is for wimps!

I want to weld a giant hook on my conning tower, so I can tear them up as I sail under them.

Beats a mag topedo any day!
