Chocolate Salty Christmas Balls by Cervisiam
Christmas Stout, 0.33l can. Wow. This was different. Black as sin and not really any head that lasted longer than a few seconds. Loads of chocolate and a dose of salt liquorice dominate both nose and taste. Not sure what to think really. Do I like it? A 0.33l is plenty for me but then again, it is a sipper and not something to gulp down. Interesting, I will say but I doubt I will seek it out and buy again. |

The boy recently sent me a picture of a bottled beer he rates pretty highly whilst in the Phillipines and I've asked him to bring me a bottle back when he returns next month if he is able.

Moira loves licorice and chocolate, and she prefers stout to other types of beer so she would probably like it. I prefer a clear, strong ale myself.

St Bernardus Christmas Ale
75 cl 10% ABV Belgian Quad style ![]() Dark chestnut colour, fair bit of carbonation with an easy 3 finger head for a careful pour. For a christmas beer, it was not spicy at all but had hints of fruits and berries. Banana, ever so slightly, blueberry, plum, and a definite vinous character that never became dominant but added nicely to the flavour. Would go well with christmassy cakes, if I could cope with any more christmas food/cake but perhaps not so well with a rich dinner, being a bit too delicate for that. |

My preferred variant and a little stronger in the kicking department.

I've had this one before and quite liked it and seeing as it was on special offer last night at a shop near my place of 'work' I thought it rude not to buy a dozen bottles.
