That is not true. The game is easily moddable through an override folder. Only Steam Workshop itself is not supported as this turned out to be non-trivial to add. So you'll have to use a different repository for mods, such as Subsim.com

They stated there would be direct control of the submarine which I feel is a bit weird as sub isn't exactly a fast-moving aircraft. How this feels exactly in game remains to be seen.

Subs are faster than you think. At flank speed you can dive past test depth in seconds.

The rendered distance isn't 1:1 but it's 1:2. I can't see why they don't give us 1:1 distance scale or at least give us the option to play with 1:1 distance scale.

It's because of pacing and the fact that we don't want to end up like Silent Hunter where 90% of the game gets spent in time compression with all the shortcomings that has.
