Is this game good?
I've done a quick look at the game Atlantic Fleet and it looks pretty fun, but I'm curious if it is good or not because I have been let down by surface combat games before *coughs* Jutland *coughs* and want to make sure this game is truly worth my money before I get it. Though from what I've seen it looks really cool.

We don't know but here are the things to consider:
Edit: Sorry I thought you were asking for Cold Waters. Atlantic Fleet is a good game to me. It's a realistic turn-based surface naval combat simulation / wargame. The only downside is that the graphics aren't too good being ported from mobile game. |

Well, Steam Workshop would help with the proliferation of custom missions as all players would simply need to upload to steam not some websites that may not be known to all.
As for speedy submarine....a speedy submarine is a dead submarine. As for pacing, we can have time compression.....realistic sub game must have realistic pacing at 1x time compression imo. But we'll see how it feels once the game is released. |
back to topic: Atlantic Fleet is absolutely worth getting.
it's well modelled and fun to play also despite being ported from mobile it got a significant boost to the graphics on PC. You get a linear Campaign for each Faction + a Dynamic Campaign for each faction + tons of historical scenarios. The turn-based mechanics have their downsides though. Anyways it's probably the best worth of money you could ever ask for. back to off topic: let's see how this game turns out when it's finished. I don't mind not having Steam Workshop Support as long it's compatible with mods. At least it will be modable which is an improvement for Killerfish Games. I wish Atlantic Fleet would support mods...:ping: |
I was one of those who was VERY impressed by Atlantic Fleet:
http://combatace.com/topic/88455-atl...w/#entry713761 I'm disappointed they didn't tweak the subs, to reduce escort/warship vulnerability in particular; continuous gameplay would have been somewhat perferable to turn-based; and the gunnery, while very engaging and playable, might have been better with an 'AI gunnery officer' option which enabled the player to designate (simultaneous primary and sccondary armament) targets. But the end result makes it an instant classic IMHO. Positives included the excellent ships, environments and effects; a super collection of historical battles; excellent interface; and two campaign options, each playable from either side. |
Got the Lite version of Atlantic Fleet for my IPad and was very impressed with the graphics and gameplay - very addictive. So bought the full Steam version for my PC and......WOW!!! If only the SH3 environment and ships were as nice as these:k_confused:. The down side is the "turn based" system. It's very good when thinking up strategy, and each ship has a chance to make their existence known and the player has time to think about what to do next, but perhaps there should be a Continuous/Turn Based play option?
Anyhow, I am hooked. Well done Killerfish:Kaleun_Applaud: Regards, MLF |
Enjoyable
I have been enjoying the game and would encourage anyone to give it a shot. Patience is needed to learn controls and to avoid torpedoes, but once you do it is a pure joy.

The PC version doesn't even require a dedicated video card for pretty nice quality graphics. IMO I've got it on my "work" PC. The best graphics of any games I am able to play.

bought this game last week, and finally cracked it open today and ...
WOW! what fun played it all day learning the ins and outs for 9.99$ best deal I have ever bought. This game gave me the same feeling as when i first started playing it, as GNB1 by ssi back in the 90's.BRAVO! killerfish. Please do not give up i.e move on from this gem if you put in updates for more realism...e.g fuel consumption, bigger map, Indian, south pacific oceans real time layer/turns etc and charge 10 bucks I'D BUY IT IN A SECOND. SSI'S second installment gnb2 Guadacanal was awesome I really hope to see more of Atlantic fleet as afar as I am concerned your just getting started with this title. |
