Very nice cdsubron7. In the first pic, who'd use that doorway on the side of the conn with the very BIG first step?...

Have you ever been to Charleston, SC and seen Patriot's Point and the USS Clamagore? I've got pics somewhere around here of that (and the Yorktown and the Laffey)...

Actually Requin would be a Guppy I as the bow is not modified. Only the conning tower is adjusted to protect the innocent!

Here's a gaggle of Guppy IIIs for your listening and dancing pleasure.

I've had the pleasure of touring two other WW II subs. One the USS Cobia in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The USS Ling in Hackensack, New Jersey.

I need to get myself to the US at some point
Seems like you guys actually held onto some of your WW2 ships and subs for future generations to experience

All we held on to is the HMS Belfast (light cruiser)

I have been to the HMS Belfast a few times - and admittedly it is awesome

But I wish we had done the same as you - and held on to some WW2 Battleships, Carriers, Subs etc etc etc...

If you go "the long way", and stop in at Pearl Harbor... man... The Mighty Mo watching over the Arizona - haunting. I've been on the Wisconsin also, at the other end of the U.S.ofA. The Norfolk Naval Base is down the road from there, and you'll see any number of ships "at home", including the big carriers. I couldn't quite see as much of the active navy at Pearl. Then you go see one of the subs scattered about the US, and you realize just how small them things are/were, and why they called them "boats" instead of ships. They're about the size of a football field - er, rugby field...
