USS Requin In Pittsburg, PA (Pic Heavy)
USS Requin - SS-481
Carngie Science Center History Of The USS Requin Location Of The USS Requin I was in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania over the weekend. My son and I were in Pittsburgh over the weekend to watch the Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates play baseball. The Pirates played baseball this weekend, I'm not sure what the Cubs were doing. This really has no bearing on my post here, I was just mentioning what I was in town for. I went to the Carnegie Science Center located on the Ohio River and took a tour of the USS Requin and while there took many pictures of the submarine and its interiors. I apologize in advance for the poor quality of some of these pictures, I guess my camera or my eyesight is somewhat on the old side. So here the pictures of the Tench class Submarine, the USS Requin (SS-481). Looking from the shore at the superstructure of The USS Requin. http://i63.tinypic.com/e86a2u.jpg This next picture is from an info poster of the Requin seen before you walk the ramp to the stern of the sub. http://i63.tinypic.com/33et16t.jpg Looking from the walkway towards the bow of the USS Requin. http://i65.tinypic.com/2efkn5l.jpg You board the sub via walkway to the stern of the sub. This next pic is looking forward from the stern. http://i67.tinypic.com/t64ao2.jpg This picture is looking at the entrance which leads below to the Forward Torpedo Room. http://i63.tinypic.com/20tleh1.jpg Here's a picture of the Forward Torpedo Room. The torpedo on display to the left of the picture is a Mark 23, BTW. A gentleman that was stationed in the forward torpedo room remarked to me that some sub veterans couldn't understand why they put a Mark 23 in the room. http://i65.tinypic.com/258vxvl.jpg This set of pictures is just behind the forward torpedo room, I believe this was the Officer's Country. http://i65.tinypic.com/al2nti.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/2qcm4hl.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/2dankw2.jpg This next set of pictures is from the Main Control Room. http://i65.tinypic.com/m9m248.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/zog86h.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/5vce4i.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/f3rpg4.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/35avwjk.jpg I believe this pic is of the Bathythermagraph, not 100% sure. http://i68.tinypic.com/2nbugt5.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/2a5n1pt.jpg These next pics are from the Main Mess and the Crew's Quarters. http://i64.tinypic.com/2cfdpow.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/33lkuna.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/1z2j0on.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/15ppurp.jpg This next pic needs no explanation. :haha: http://i65.tinypic.com/t7h2fb.jpg |

It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning. I hope you enjoyed these pics of the USS Requin, because I sure had fun posting them. :yep: :D :yeah: |
Very interesting pictures especially in view of the cold war reconstruction. The tower seems to come from the Guppy III program ... the hull was not adjusted.

Great stuff!

Billy. |
Hey thanks for the pictures. Outstanding Job!
|
Very nice cdsubron7. In the first pic, who'd use that doorway on the side of the conn with the very BIG first step?...
Have you ever been to Charleston, SC and seen Patriot's Point and the USS Clamagore? I've got pics somewhere around here of that (and the Yorktown and the Laffey)... |
Actually Requin would be a Guppy I as the bow is not modified. Only the conning tower is adjusted to protect the innocent!:D
Here's a gaggle of Guppy IIIs for your listening and dancing pleasure. http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...isternview.jpg |
Thanks for sharing, very nice pics!

Beautiful pics CdrSubron7

Seems like you guys actually held onto some of your WW2 ships and subs for future generations to experience :salute: All we held on to is the HMS Belfast (light cruiser) I have been to the HMS Belfast a few times - and admittedly it is awesome:) But I wish we had done the same as you - and held on to some WW2 Battleships, Carriers, Subs etc etc etc... |
Makes me want to get out to the Cavalla again.
