Sadly, in a situation like this the army are the only ones who have the resources to deal with such a mass of humanity. Still, at least Slovenia hasn't gone full Donald Trump like Hungary has, and the restriction on how many cross per day is only because Austria has said it can only take a set amount. It's just working out the backlog on the Croatian side of the border that's the problem.

The police were never trained and equiped to run long tasks outside their precinct. But laws still apply and the army can't be sent anywhere without the parliament and president sending them out. At least the cops will be relieved now. They were working 12 hour shifts, eating sandwiches and sleeping in cars. At least the army can bring a kitchen and heated tents with them.
