To get my Nvidia GPU to automatically fire up wiyh SH3 on my W8.1 machine I navigated to the Silent Hunter Folder and located the SH3.exe file. Right click on the icon and see if you see "run with graphics processor" as an option. If you see this and select it you should be taken to the Nvidia control panel which will allow you to set the graphics processor as the default for the SH3 application.
