This is not personal at all. This is not against the modders who I have the highest respect for and who have made both SH3 and SH5 much greater than their original releases.

If it is personal at all it is my personal failing to overlook the way the game plays.

I am absolutely not talking about the Gryf which is Polish and does absolutely belong in that first mission with its own flag. I am talking about HMS (His Majesties Ship) HMS Walker which flies a Polish flag but identifies as British both online and in the game. Yet there it is.

You will also note that in this thread there is another unflagged asset which is British U class which doesn't respond to the world naturally, i.e. when you fire on it, it doesn't dive, the only way to actually kill it is via torpedo etc...

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=214126 there is even a picture of both. Scroll down to see the HMS ship.

Now if it will be of any help I am only using "The Wolves of Steel Megamod for SH5."

I do really like the real nav aspects of the sim and the manual control of the boat but it just feels like too much is still broken. The interface with the crew is just a minefield. I miss the SH3 way of managing crew which I feel is more closer to reality than going around and talking to crew.

In all 5 hours of Das Boot the extended the captain left the Conning tower or control room all of maybe a half hour, during all the intense moments, hardly at all, never once did he go to the forward torpedo room.

It is re-assuring that it is there but it severs no purpose, plus the guys there don't do anything. It may as well be a jpeg of the engine room for all Ubi did with it.

I think the mod is outstanding, and the amount of immersion it adds is great. But the destroyers still do stupid things, the simulation still does other graphic things which make no sense and the whole world so far feels very scripted.

I hear you. When I first installed SH5 - all of 4 months ago - I ended up wiping it from my HD in disgust and going back to SHIII. It’s a pretty common reaction from what I’ve seen in the SH5 forums

It showed me that SH5 is not an improved version of SHIII, it’s a completely different sub-sim altogether, more of a guided tour of Type VII operations in The Battle of The Atlantic than SHIII’s attempt at a straight-out simulator.

One place where the two are directly comparable is load-times. Admittedly SH5 lacks the drama of waiting the full 5 minuets to see if the game will CTD/blue-screen because there was a ship/land-mass/harbour within 50km of your boat when you last saved.

I’m just saying that both have major warts, and we all know that SHIII also demands a healthy suspension of disbelief in order to play.

What brought me back to SH5 was its stability (a CTD doesn’t trash your entire career) and the Real Navigation Mod, which completely changes game play.

BTW, if you use the Extended SH5 Interface in TDW’s Multiple UIs mod, you have the option to command the crew by clicking on the officers icon, then clicking on the order bar - just like in SHIII. Also, the up-arrow icon in the order bar allows you to teleport directly to different stations, rather than having to walk there.

Well - I did that
I mean adding the Polish navy using the bits I had to work with - Both the Walker and the sub

Please feel free to remove them if you wish

You should report this to the WoS thread that this is spoiling the game perhaps removed (OHII)

The crew interface is one of the last areas untouched - perhaps you can look at fixing it - if you have the time to commit

perhaps you should stick to SH3

Like I said - easy fix - re-install stock game

The only scripted part is the Memel mission and that was done for a reason

I think the game specification recommended 4gb of ram when it first came out.

The new mods to day are much more sophisticated and demanding with improved graphics from when SH5 was first introduced.

So it is not surprising that some PC's and laptops are struggling.

An SSD is 10 times faster than a conventional rotating hard drive.

My set up takes 6 minutes to load from when I press the icon so an SSD you would think would make a big diiference to loading the game as well as improving the reading and writing.

I am on my 2nd SSD, have the OS, a few other small programs and a clean install of SH5 with only the mega mod installed on it. The loading times are not substantially faster (maybe a few seconds) than my external HDD to which i have no explanation.

Ive made sure the OS has its page file on the SSD as well.

Ive tested the SSD and compared it to the original SSD and to the HDD and it is phenomenally faster. I also have no other slower running programs from the SSD. So its just weird.

Upgrading the 9800gtx+ is a possibility it is long over due, it is just a great gpu. Albeit aged.

Sounds like you are running the same GPU as myself. The machine is a few steps below what the box calls for, and my sim is now modded out with Steel Wolves. I have had fewer CTDs (something that on a game that was not pushed out by suits before being ready would likely never have), and the sim is great. Issues I am having are graphics related. My card has been long in the tooth for several years, and my system is coming up on an upgrade. I think Jaystew you are dealing with many issues I had. Get a better graphics card, and upgrade your system. I think that is all that can be done.
