You didn't like Tombstone? You didn't like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? The Ghost and the Darkness? Thunderheart? Real Genius? All movies made in part or in all by Kilmer's acting.

Top Gun is still a classic film. And I enjoyed Willow back I the day, although that may be due to the actress Joanna Whalley.

Would be much happier with Christian Bale as the Dark Knight.

Never quite liked Val Kilmer. Just something about his looks that makes me think
he is an ahole. Then again, I never liked Leonardo DiCaprio in his early years,
but IMHO he has grown to be a great actor. Same goes for Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Never liked him in Third Rockfrom the sun (did anyone actually like that show?)
But now, he has shown his skills in Inception and The Dark Knight Rises.

Oh and one more that I was shocked about: King Leonidas in 300 vs. the real Gerarld Butler.

So, wait and see. It might turn out very well. (or not)

I think Kilmer was very good in this:

And one I never liked.

Just remembered another very good Kilmer role: Philip II in Alexander.

Lets be honest here. If Ben Affleck as Batman ruined your weekend, there wasn't much to ruin in the first place.

If Peter Dinklage played Batman:

Seems this buzz is in about every cast change.

Mr. Mom as Batman?

July 03, 1988

So Michael Keaton has been cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne (Cinefile, by Leonard Klady, June 26)?

He might have made a good Joker, but his comic style, which he seems unable to shake (but can amplify), has doomed this promised "serious" treatment of Bob Kane's character to the same tired, boring level of artificial "camp" that made the TV series a hit yet simultaneously doomed it to an early cancellation.

The painful lesson of "Superman III"--when you don't treat venerable superheroes with respect the audience rejects the property--has been ignored in this cynical, opportunistic attempt to capitalize on the success of "Beetlejuice" (same director, same star).

The Sam Hamm script that director Tim Burton is filming has many blunders, but does treat the characters basically seriously. Obviously, in casting Keaton, Burton is rejecting this approach altogether and going after a manic comedy.

Batman has been a popular character for almost five decades--not because he is a figure of comedy, but precisely because he is serious , especially in the last couple of years. By ignoring this, by casting a clown as Batman, Warner Bros. and Burton have defecated on the history of Batman and on the hopes of those who appreciate the character and his potential.

Better they should have filmed Frank Miller's "Batman: the Dark Knight Returns." But that would have required courage, taste and imagination.

Folks are getting way too serious about a cartoon character. If you're older than 15 and you talk about the "seriousness" of Batman then you really, REALLY need to get a life.

Are you trying to convince people Batman wasn't real?

I don't care much for the movie as a whole, so Val Kilmer's performance is about the only thing worthwhile in that one for me. (Well, that and Sam Elliot, who can do no wrong.) But Kilmer's performance got raves and justifiably so.

However it's a well known fact that the real star of Tombstone was Kurt Russell's mustache.

That's a case of typecasting, as it was closer to the real thing than any moustache before or since.

Nope. Jeff Daniels had a better one:
