Don't know what to think of it.
He was also just another scumbag politician to me. Wont miss him but I wont rejoice over his death like I would when some of ours will bite the dust. |

Is this good?
I never thought him as overly evil. Out side of calling the USA names every once in awhile he was harmless. His people seemed to like him. Whats the problem? He didn't "play ball" with us? He liked Fidel Castro? Or did he overthrow one of our "friends"? I never got the hostility. I mean what danger was he? How many countries has he invaded? On a side note, I never ever buy Citgo gas. ![]() Not a sympathizer, or a commie, I just don't see what he did wrong to draw ire. I mean if someone knows please tell. I do not know much about him coming up. Just what he did as a leader, and I mean, you gotta kinda respect what he did for Venezuela. The most important thing is his people are working, and moving forward, they seem to enjoy his type of rule, so it is what it is.

Right, wrong, indifferent, oddball, strange, ok, funny....at the end of the day the guy was a father. Probably more so normal like the rest of us.

My god. I cannot believe the amount of naivety.
Chavez was nothing more than any other authoritarian thug there is, and are so many of. Corruption and bribery exploded under his regime. Currency was devalued by over one third under his regime. The rate of murder under his regime was at times higher than the death toll in Iraq. He forged alliances with North Korea and Iran, according to the Mossad he delivered uranium to iran and likely got nukie tech and/or missile tech from North Korea. He formed relations with Lukashenko. The economic crisis under his reign grew. The many enterprises that got turned into state_owned businesses, mysteriously lost a significant share of their incomes somewhere near the circles close to and directly related to Chavez and his closest allies. He has not saved the economy, but ruined it even more. Unemployement is up. He kicked the Yankees, well, that is a great deed, isn't it - but for his own part, the economical misery of his people now is even worse than before. Venezuela has so much oil - and thanks to Chavez the state-owned oil economy pays its debts in - bonds. and in the list of economically most repressive countries in the world, listing 177 countries, Venezuela ranks as fourth-worse regime world-wide. http://www.heritage.org/index/ranking Okay, he hated America, and he was an icon of the left. The left overlook injustice and violence and dictatorship so easily if these things happens on behalf of leftist ideology. German media 3SAT called him an authentic and honest leader, another one, I think it was Die Welt, said the political left has lost one of its biggest icons and influential thinkers. Oh. My. God. I could vomit when hearing such garbage. Being anti-America, being left, being a robber and being a cynical ass and parasite to his own people seems to be enough these days to ennoble a loser, a criminal, a villain. Nothing new then. I criticise America and capitalism myself often and viciously enough - but I never did it for such cheap reasons and with so idiotic pseudo-arguments and in such a shallow, simpleminded manner, like this sucker did. Not to mention that I did not actively engage in crime while hiding it and calling my "socialist cause" to my defence. Let'S laugh and celebrate that there is one bastard less in the world. Even if it does not make a difference, probably. Still, this one will not play his wicked games anymore. And that deserves no tears. None at all. North Korean leaders are cried about, too, and their people love them oh so very much. Propaganda works wonders, you know. There is nothing to relativize about Chavez. He was a tyrant, and he abused his people, sucked their juice. He left his country in a condition worse than he had picked it up in. That he often made a fool of himself by his behaviour and talkings and ideas, and caused so much amusement amongst foreigners by his display of obvious megalomania, is the only thing funny in this. But it is black humour I laugh over. Some of you come back to their senses. Save your crocodile tears or your attempt to relativise and your well-meant intention to see "both sides of the coin" for somebody more worthy. The economic damage and suffering caused by him will continue to grow after Chavez, and the guy coming after him probably will be as bad if not worse, than Chavez was. It was not nice before him. but it is not one b it better after him, but worse. Nothing to pay the man tribute for.

I wasn't paying tribute, I just see China and Russia as more menacing than him, and we (USA) kiss their hairy beanbags at every chance.
What did he do to America? That is my view. Nothing, he did nothing... Seriously? He called us names, hell Brits, and Germans who are our allies, call us names. it is what it is. Why should anyone care what he did in his craphole country, it is not ours. Was he overly militant? No. Was he a threat to any sovereign nation? No Does he sponsor terrorist acts against other nations? No. So leave him to his own devices. So western of us to push our ideology and will on others, who are more than happy in their own savage ways, why do you think we been in Iraq this long?

Chavez, like every other leader, is multifaceted.
On the good side, he offered aid after Huricane Katrina. Aid that the US refused, but in hind sight perhaps should have taken http://www.washingtonpost.com/nation...f_story_1.html Plus he subsidized, through Cigo and Citizens Energy, either discounted or free oil for poor families during the winter. http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-500395_162-4699560.html Frankly I don't care about his motivation (no country does anything without an agenda) but helping poor families in the US stay warm is a good thing. I appreciate someone/anyone who helps my fellow country families. I did not see the US federal government offering any help to these US citizens. ![]() Chavez was like all leaders, he had his good, bad, and ugly sides. I personally harbored no hatred for him. At the same time, not exactly crying about his death. I am, however, worried about who will replace him.

I chalk it up to my age. At a certain age naivety is really just another way of saying I don't care about it. The guy passed away. Perhaps the best thing to do is worry about who is taking his place.
