Ahh the memories, Silent Service II , let the destroyer know where you are, stay still, let him come towards you gun barrel straight and fire a torp at him 0 deg AoB. Pick off the merchants with your unlimited ammo deck gun.
Sorry for going off topic but I think we have all found Kiel now

I would circle at 300'. I got very good at predicting where one would be and firing from there. I had a very good hit rate. When the game lets you cheat it becomes easy.

thanks, any tip is appreciated

now I am sudwest of Ireland, there is a convoy course sudwest but any attemps fail, i tried to set impact or magnet, 1 meter or 3 or 5 or....nothing, the torpedos always pass under keel, so, is it possible to hit some ship in rough water?

It's tricky with bad weather, since the ships move up and down on the waves. Best bet is to fire at minimal depth and with magnetic detonator. If by any chance the enemy is at the bottom of a wave when the torpedo is about to cross paths, then it still can use the impact detonator on the side of the hull. Magnetic does not exclude impact. But there is a high chance it goes dud because it bounces off the curved path of the hull. In short, it's uncertain!

If you use Stiebler's addon it's probably best not to try shooting at small ships in rough seas. The torpedo will just be thrown off course by the waves.

In vanilla and GWX I guess you could set the depth setting to 0 meters. That is very unrealistic, but as far as I know Stiebler's addon was the first modeling of the risk for a torpedo coming a surface runner.

I have GWX+V16B1+SH3COMMANDER, I have read the user manual for V16B1 "torpedo failure fix", anyway it is very difficult to hit ships; with 7 torpedos I sank 3 ships, 2 torpedos lost and 1 bounced on the hull, one small ships took 2 torpedos for to sink, it had engines stopped and I took some hours for reload and rest the crew, I shoot torpedos with a deep of 7 or 8 meters with magnetic detonator. I couldn't use the desk gun because in rought water.

There was one war ship near, but I didn't hear the ping, it's october 1939, so I guess allied didn't still have sonar

The do have it, and they use it. Their problem is, as it was in real life, that they can listen on their hydrophones or ping with the active sonar, but not both at the same time. If they think they know where you are they'll start pinging to get a precise fix. If they're not sure they'll ping sometimes but mostly just listen.

When there are two or more some will ping and some will listen.

mmm, in rought condition I can't use the desk and flak guns (I have GWX) and to sink the last ship I would have had need it, but now I found this http://www.gamefront.com/files/20814...eather_Guns_7z

I don't know anything about uboot so I ask you, where is realistic?

Hello

No i dont think its realistic i personal think the away witch is implemented in the GWX Mod its the nearest of the reality or more near from the true...

i think uboat's would have manned to deck guns in poor weather like 10m/s but not 15m/s. there would be a very good chance a wave would wash all your gun crew or indeed your ammo clean off the deck. if SH3 could model this (which i severely doubt it can) then yea it would be made realistic

From that point of view...i agree with you.
In this case i consider to be very near of the reality...and may be the game its very hard coded and its dificult to implemented in the game...if it was simple some one all ready made it...

Heavy seas also affect the accuracy of the gun. Have you ever tried shooting while moving? Take a BB gun with you the next time you go on a boat trip. AFAIK, the guns on the U-boats didn't have any stabilizers or mechanisms that could have countered the movement caused by the sea.

mmm, there was an unarmed merchant with engines broke because of a previous hit, and I was at 500 mt, the wind was 15 m/s, I had to go to 16 meters below the water for reload and then to sink the ship with a torpedo, mmm so,
do you think also in real should have done in this way because deskgun was really impossible to use? if so I'll take the GWX setup

another question, why when I am submerged I receive radio messages but I can't send ones? thanks a lot for your patience with a noob answering my questions

The way you want to play is all up to you. I like to play in a way that is as historical as possible - that means to me that sometimes the weather is so bad that no combat is possible, even with the torpedoes. But someone else would find it dull playing a game and not being able to be active all the time. Do whatever you find the most fun
