Ahoy James,
Just a note to let you know that your post is not being ignored. I have been actively searching for an answer or even a hint as to what could cause this pop-up. It's an interesting one, and I've never heard of it before, it doesn't really make sense.
Have you reinstalled the Game? If not, that's probably the best way to go on this one as no-one has barked. I'm still looking, but the most I've been able to discern is that it's a error. I mean the pop-up itself is an error.
Tell us if you've been able to reistall, if the problem persists, post your system specs so we can see what your using here.
Good luck Herr Kaleun

PS:Also, (again, I don't know what your OS is) but you may try manually installing the ubisoft game launcher. This has been known to resolve some pop-up issues on startup.

I found similar, unanswered reports on the UNISOFT site forum.

The install is straight vanilla install on a Win7 OS. Program worked fine for several months. UBIsoft patches have been applied.

I also have removed the program completely (including registry info) and reinstalled which reloaded the Gamelauncher package. It sycns with the server and dowloads saved games upon first running, with the same results. I'm beginning to think my problem with the info it collects from the server, which leads me to the question of how to purge the server info to permit me to start all over.

Problem occurs whether I attempted to use a saved game, one of the "classics" or with a "new" campaign with a new captain name.

Any ideas? I need my fix....<grin>

that could be your problem, corrupted or virus infected saved games on ubi servers

so you reintroduce them when you restart your game

try running a new game, if its still there then reinstall and select to save "offline" and see if its gone

Attempted to reinstall and selected "to save offline" as well as running the game offline, and the game launcher insists on connecting before the settings are saved. Even tells me it must before the settings become active. I do so but the data is still there. A catch-22. I must have their generated user data file to run and it always produces the same problems.

I even reinstalled and attempted to setup a new user name (requiring a new email address) but hit the wall when it asks for the serial number, responding that the number was already used.

Is there not a way to install the program without the game launcher?

I removed the program, deleted everything (including saved games and user data files) cleaned the registry of any gamelauncher and sh5 references (with two differnet registry cleaners). Rebooted. Loaded game fresh. I am forced to use the original user name (otherwise ubi server indicates that the serial number has been used). The first time run ubi server syncs saved programs and the user dat file, and the problem continues.

It does appear that the user dat file is the problem as the problem occurs regardless of saved game or "classic" game that I try.

It appears that you cannot run SH5 without making at least one gamelauncher contact with the server.

Out of principle I'd rather not buy another copy just to get a new serial number to install fresh. Has anyone else had this problem?

With the game installed - goto your save games and delete them.
Then allow game to sync with Ubi. This will set their servers to zero saved games for your user name.

Then and only after you have no saved games - remove sh5 fully.
Now when you re-install and the laucher syncs your saved games, there will be none.
