MANY Units had thier class or Names changed starting with GWX 2.0 I think it was.
So what may have been an Armed Trawler in older versions or stock has totally been re-class/renamed so the older Mission files can't find them and.............
CTD!
(BBW taught me that)

Thanks for that info. I was kind of afraid that was the issue. However, it seems strange that these 'older' missions don't crash the Mission Editor. You can even 'run' these missions in the ME with no apparent issues.

I don't suppose there is a list somewhere of the 'changes' you mentioned?

The only list I had of all or most of the changes is long gone.

BBW sent me list way back and I could have sworn I burned a copy of alot of stuff to DVD.
But I have not been able to locate it.
I know it's on none of my HDs as I've searched every single one of the 10 I'm linked to.
If you could give me a link to one of the Missions that does not work I could look at it and see if I spot something obvious.

No problem. I actually uploaded the mission to this site in 2005 and it is still here ---> http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches2005_sh3.html

Scroll down to Custom Missions and look for the mission named 'Ice Ice Baby'.

Normally I would let this issue go because I understand that mods sometimes make older missions incompatible. However, after installing GWX3, I noticed that they included Ice Ice Baby in their Single Mission set.

So, they obviously found a way to make the mission work in GWX3. I looked at THEIR version in the ME and it looks exactly the same exept that they changed the BR PT Boat into a BR CO Flower.

Even if I delete the BR PT Boat in MY original mission, it will still crash my game if I try and run it in GWX3. In fact, if I delete every unit except my sub, the game still crashes. There is obviously something going on here. My guess is that there is a simple workaround to getting these older missions to work in GWX3.

Original Ice Ice Baby 1........
Change the Iceburgs from a Type 105 to a Type 16 and it fired right up.

As I was about to admire the pretty Iceburgs?
I got my arse handed to me before I could crash dive!!!

Time in Mission?
MAYBE 10 seconds before the whole world came down on me!!

As far as your quick death, I'll quote a part of the included readme:

"I have randomized the starting position of your sub within a radius of 15km. This means that you will spawn anywhere in that circle. You may spawn behind, in front or on either side of the convoy. The distance will also be a random number. This means that the mission will play out differently every time."

My guess is that you were the inluckiest sailor in the world to have spawned right on top of the enemy. As many times as I have played that mission I have never even come close to that happening, although obviously there is a miniscule chance that it may.

**EDIT: I just did a test and found that it was ALL the iceberg types that were crashing my game. After many hours of trying anything I could think of, the one thing I never tried were the icebergs.
