No I don't have any mods installed. I will look for that other thread but I haven't found anything yet.

I've not experienced this but I think it has something to do with using one of the resolution mods to play at a different resolution than the game's native one - I seem to remember that at a certain resolution the default spot where the mouse cursor 'reappears' in the situation described ends up being right over the 'fire' button.

But I can't remember if it's just one particular resolution, or if it has something to do with letting the game get stretched out to a widescreen ratio as well.

This issue has come up before more than once, though, so somebody here will likely have more specific information about it.

Yes that was the gist of it IIRC. You must be doing some thing to alter the res of the game.

I just installed the HighResFix today, and this problem is mentioned here:

However, you say you don't have any mods installed .
But the link you'll find when you scroll down that page might still be the solution to your problem.
