The Dream Act incentivizes illegal immigration.

Fix the border first. Set a rational immigration policy second (let loads in legally).

Make those that broke the law (illegals in country) leave, then reenter legally to have any standing.

If you want to gripe about jobs going offshore or to Hispanics, look first at the corporations that are so desperate to improve quarterly numbers for shareholders that they cut costs to the point that the people who are working to build homes can't afford to own a reasonable one for themselves.

Corporate responsibility and accountability, rather than, "I'm failing, bail me out" will be what changes this. No law and nothing else will.

Oh, Hi. Been awhile since I've been around. Glad to be back.

and a nice post to come back on. I agree. It's not the illegals fault. they wanted a piece of the american pie too. Its a dream all men would want. It's the cost cutting corporations and businesses fault. GM did it to Michigan, my home state, by moving to mexico, but they made great earnings doing that. so don't blame the people who came here like our forefathers did, looking for a better life, Blame the greedy business owners who started this epidemic to make more money.

The issue is what it was inevitably to come to: Investors put their money into businesses that will reward them with dividend payments for the business' success. In order to maximize the business' success, the decision-makers in the business must find a way to max out profit and eliminate costs as much as possible. The easiest costs to eliminate are payroll: it costs a lot to pay knowledgeable people a competitive wage to keep them in your employ, and it costs a lot to provide that person with the benefits necessary to keep them healthy enough to make you money. Instead, hire inferior employees at a cheap rate, provide abysmal service, and replace the now-fired employee with another. If you can eliminate the position entirely, or outsource it to another nation for pennies on the dollar, then the shareholders will be happy with the margin and cash the dividend checks.

I've said it for years: You can't expect Cadillac service for McDonald's wages.

What would change if we employed people who were experts in their fields, for wages commensurate with their abilities? What would happen if, instead of sloppily-completed building projects that are then mired in punitive litigation, and instead have a project that is completed with pride and quality?

Sorry, I'm in a rotten, rotten mood.

the problem is is that they don't give a crap anymore. its cheap and easy for them to do this. The company heads aren't combing the streets for a job that will pay enough to feed their family, they're making good money letting the rest of us decent workers starve.

We should close down about 100 left over cold war bases in Europe and place them on the border.

We have about 3,500 border patrol agents for our entire southern border, New York alone has over 35,000 cops, that should tell you something.

Don't blame the Dems only, the GOP under Reagan and both Bushes did nothing but promote it. There was a time the GOP loved the cheap labor.

GOP shares blame also BUT the Dems have been in control of Congress since 2007 and the Presidency for two years, they have failed to secure border or do anything meaningful because they have no will to protect the border. With some great people like Rand Paul etc headed to Congress, perhaps we will see some action on the issue.

I agree. If a Dem congressperson could, they would stand on the border with a welcom basket of welfare, foodstamps, a DL , and of course a Dem voter reg. card.

I drove through a small town in NC I once lived in a month ago, more rural farm and I swore I was in Mexico, hardly one sign on the entire strip was in english.

They say no one would do these jobs, I wonder who did them before they came. Hell, I picked tobacco as a teen for $10 a day.

Has our population decreased that much in my lifetime

Still, it pesses me off that I do several bids a week in the richest hood in town full of white GOP members that complain about illegals, then they use them over me because they can do the job 30% cheaper cuz they pay no insurance, fees, taxes, ect....

My guess is once these new members get in they'll soon fall prey to special interest like they always have.

I understand BUT if we secured the border and made the penalty for being here illegaly harsh(immediate deportation) as well as cracking down on those who hire, they wouldnt be there to do those jobs.

true, but ain't gonna happen.

They say the real numbers are around 30 million illegals here. We would never really know until we give em amnesty.

And this reform they talk about...the word amnesty shouldn't be mentioned. Until not one mexican can cross the border it shoudn't even be talked about.

I saw one illegal girl crying over how she came here and worked hard, going to medical school and won't be able to get a job as a Doctor because she has no SSN. Go to Mexico and use the free education there.
