At no time was the capability of the US to launch these missiles compromised. When it comes to Nuclear Release Authority, there are redundant systems and redundant to the redundant systems. Then there are the back up systems and the back up back up systems.

General LeMay set up a good system. Nothing in the SIOP can have a single point of failure... or even two points of failure.

But then again I suppose if you weren't a part of the nuclear triad during some point of your life you would be shocked by this news, maybe even feel a little exposed.
