Are you playing stock/vanilla or a supermod?
IIRC 40 is a lot of cans for an ASW Trawler. Thae trawler will stay on your case as long as he has a fix on you and the game will throw an imaginary dice that decides what assets if any will come to assist.....dependant on their location and availability.
