I finally adjusted nuclear subs PSL levels in LWAMI 3.10 according to my best knowledge and data:
- US: LA 62, Ohio 57, LA Imp 58, Seawolf 55, Virginia 55 - UK: Switfsure 63, Trafalgar 59, Astute 56 - Russia: Victor III 67, Typhoon 65, Victor III Imp 63, Mike 64, Akula I 62, Delta IV 62, Oscar II 62, Akula I Imp 59, Akula II 58, Graney 57, Borey 59 - China: Type 093 Shang 66 Now I think they are quite correct. Hmm, where exactly do you get those numbers man? Don't you think the modders (LWAMI or DWX) do their research? I really have no idea what you are basing your PSLs on, other than wikipedia and pure speculation.

I don't know where they did their research but I do not base my estimates on what Russkie old-farts from Makakhit and Rubin Design Bureaus twaddled about rusted Graney and Borey subs being equal or even more quiet than Seawolf. In fact I would be more trustful to specialists from Toshiba on that issue.
Anyway here you are an indirect answer: Seawolf's PSL=55, Graney's PSL=55 (taken from LWAMI 3.10 platform reference guide). ![]() Reality is another story: US simply achieved another qualitative breakthrough in submarine's noise reduction over Los Angeles class SSNs having developed Seawolf program 15-20 years ago. The widely known fact is that in those days US were ten years ahead of the best Russkies had thanks to Seawolf's technology which means they regained lead in submarine warfare again as in the 1970s. As one can note at that time Russkies had on hand: Akula I Imp/Akula II SSNs introduced into service and Graney/Borey programs already launched. Of course in the last 20 years Russian naval R&D base effectively collapsed so only very naive people can think Russkies were able to catch-up Seawolf's technology level. In the meantime US developed next SSN project called NSSN which materialized as Virginia-class. What is known Virgina SSN is at least as quiet as Seawolf being in some ways more advanced design - so US were still making progress in this area. On the other hand Russkies after 15 years of silence showed their "brand-new" submarines which are essentially examples of late 1980s to early 1990s technology. In sum Russia is now 10-30 years behind the US and that is all story. Translating all that into DW/LWAMI universe: If we assume Seawolf's PSL=55 as a baseline so generational step ahead over 688I's PSL = 58 is 3 points. Yet Russian Akula Imp and Akula II are believed to be more on less on par with 688I noise level and that is why I granted them with PSL equals to 59 and 58 respectively. Later I assumed that Graney SSN is founded on improved Akula II technology being slightly quieter but not generation ahead as new American nuclear subs due to all above obvious facts from reality. Thus Graney's PSL value should equal 57 being "two PSL points louder" than Seawolf's PSL or 2/3 generation behind it. Similar considerations leads to conclusion that Borey-class SSBN should have PSL about 58-60 being still more noisy than 30 years old Ohio-class SSBN (maybe after some stealth upgrades) but better than late 1980s Delta IV SSBN. As you already mentioned, the data is the platform reference chart is off, we have the Graney at 56. So you're making a huge fuss over a 1-point difference from our estimation to yours. Got a lot of time on your hands?

After reading through the treads regarding the mods available, I am still at a loss what they will do. How they differ from on and the other? What will they change? How will they change the gameplay and a decent install instructions!!!
Preferably that should be stated in the first post of the thread, not on page 3 og 6 or a link to another thread! ![]() |

I've finally installed your mod and it's awesome!
There are several posts about the mod, so I will try to put each thing on its place. I have a CTD in the USNI reference when selecting the Swiftsure. Also in the USNI reference, Chile appears as CHLIE. Messing up a bit with the DWedit I saw that the Shang class has the same propulsion as the Han... I have no references or bibliography to back this but, shouldn't it be quieter than the Han? I see that it's passive signature is lower (so reactor noise improvements, I suppose), but really they have not improved the propulsion? One last thing: cycling on the 3D view of the DWedit I had various "bitmap missing" on some platforms. I don't remember which ones, but is not hard to discover. Later I will post them. Thank you for the mod! ![]()

Sorry for the delay.
I've looked again at the 3D view in DWedit, the platforms that show the missing .bmp are: ElBrus, Koni, Sailboat, Sailboat2 and Yatch... but the queer thing is that this doesn't happen always! After the error, DWedit crashes, if I open it again and go directly to one of this platforms, all textures are in place ![]() So... who knows, maybe is a DWedit issue. A question: have you changed something with EMCOM? I put an AI FFG at EMCOM. She's not using active sonar, but I receive ESM signal.

Did we have another Subsim fire today? I've been trying to answer for awhile.
Anyways, no, we didn't change EMCON (and boy would I want to if I could!). Just for the hell of it I did a test to make absolutely sure and got no surprises. Something to keep in mind is that ships will turn on their radars if events occur to prompt it to, such as detecting a missile that needs to be shot down.

Recently DL'd 3.10 and - after going through the instructions very slowly and carefully - got it running smoothly. Just one snag, though; DW CTDs when trying to view the Swiftsure in the USNI Database. Otherwise, fantastic work. Love the new Kilo, Delta, etc. textures, and all the new models, especially the Virginias! All we need now are VLS door textures for the 688i, and a completely new model to replace the rather ugly default Akula.
Really, you modders are to be commended on the work that you do for this sim. It is because what the modders make available is the reason why I reinstalled DW in the first place. Bravo! |

Thanks!
We do have a new akula on the way (see the preview thread), but we're going to give up animated doors to do it. Thanks for the feedback about the Swiftsure (FdB too!). Someday I'm going to have to go through these threads and find all of those little glitches so I can fix them. In this case, it's crashing because it's expecting to load a .jpg that I neglected to include in the final package. If you (or anyone else who feels comfortable with software tinkering) wants to quick-fix the Swiftsure, there are two ways. The easiest is to find and open UK_TOC.txt in Graphics and find the Swiftsure entry. Change "swiftsure.jpg" to "nophoto.jpg." Then edit the file zUSNIInstaller to have only one line "cmputil usnidata UK_TOC.txt." Then run zUSNI... The other method is to find a picture of the Swiftsure to your liking, download it, scale it to fit nicely on DW's USNI screen, rename it "Swiftsure.jpg", place it in Graphics, edit zUSNIInstaller to have this line only "cmputil usnidata Swiftsure.jpg," and run zUSNI.
