depending on your realism settings, you may run into trouble with this unless you're got the "unlimited batteries" ticked, (not sure whether there is an "unlimited air" box too) - basically your sub isn't great at travelling long distances underwater early in the war as you run out of battery power and air .
do this set 1024 TC, go make a cup of tea and you could come back to another dead crew!!
later in the war, you get snorkals which allow you travel submerged at a shallow depth, but I think you said in earlier posts you were in 1939..

finally, it won't solve your issue of dropping out of high TC, as your hydrophone will pick up sound contacts better than your watch pick up visual ones, you would need to unman the hydophone station to make this plan work.

better plan is to use the "start at sea" option in SH Commander and that way you will miss most of the traffic, although that does mean you can't use the kiel canal unless you plot it manually
