New GWX problem.. It freezes?
Okay guys. so heres the situation I finally got GWX 3.0 installed. I didnt bother with the patch for SH3 Commander yet and did a test run with SH3 commander. It ran fine, until I went to jump into a mission, it loaded until about 20 to 15% was left and just froze.. So figuring it was SH3 Commander config file that was the problem, I just ran normal SH3 without going through commander, I go to start up a career and same thing :o
Im going to go through and disable the GWX mods one by one and see if I cant find which one was causing the problem. But any suggestions guys? I really want to play with this mod because it seems like the one to be playign with ! |
How long did you give it to load? GWX takes far longer to load than stock, depending on your specs - I have 2 GB of RAM on my computer and it takes a good 15-20 minutes to load a patrol. I'd say start up GWX again and this time go watch some TV/go for a jog/bake a cake or something for about 20 minutes (depending on your computer) and see if it loads. If not, then something might be up :hmmm:
Edit: Also, you can try loading one of the training missions first to see if that works, and then try a career. |
Youre right  Im rockin GWX3.0 and SH3 Commander 3.2 now!!
:D All the headaches have paid off. now time to get destroyed by destroyers more often now! |
Here is a link to the GWX3 CFG for SH3 Commander:

A system with only 1gb RAM takes about 3-4 mins, just long enough to brew a tea. Have you defragged recently? |

It takes approximately 10-12 minutes to load on mine w/ 1gb RAM. I not only can make tea, but lunch as well and read the paper, and go potty before I see the blessed "Not So Long Ago...". :woot: Regular defrags and registry cleanings help a little but not a big difference. To OP: As Weiss Pinguin said above, GWX can take a long time to load compared to stock. There are a ton more ships to load. If it loads fine with a training mission, it is working. The career takes a while. Patience young grasshopper. :) |
I'm running an i7-860 with 4GB of ram and it still takes me a couple of minutes to load a mission up.
Of course if reloading a save you've still got that tense moment when 'not so long ago...' is up, waiting to see whether it crashes to desktop or not. :shifty: |

If you've just got the basic GWX running then maybe 1Gb of RAM does only take 3/4 mins, but if you're running a lot (not 'alot' :D) of GWXtras and some other system intense mods like MFM or some modded GUI/Environment then it will s l o w things down further. And then there are all the other programs on your system vying for memory use too! :nope: |
thanks for all the help guys! a normal mission loads fine and I havent had to use the Config file yet for Commander so I assume the one I downloaded had it in it automatically? in either case Im gonna try and play today and see what all happens. :yeah:

I got the config file and now it seems like the game loads incredibly fast! but when I plot a course out of kiel it wants to run me into land oh well I guess I can just manually fix it. PS: I cant wait for a new graphics card because A I can then maybe run SH5 and b My water in this game isnt reflective :( or near transparent but it works fine. I have to say the harbour and the U boat look alot better now since I installed GWX. I get the feeling when Sailing out that there IS a Germany and people actually populate it with all the activity I saw!

No shame if you did, I did it this morning approaching Scotland in early '40, I carried on at about TC128 and thought, 'that should be turning by now!'. :o :nope: |

That said, if you're going through the kiel canal I recommend adjusting the proximity to land max TC (default is x4 and will take ages to get through) using SH Commander. |

There is a Nav mod, don't know if it's just GWX to auto-plot through canal but it just seems to take forever and when you've only got a short amount of time to sink something... :nope: |
